1. Islamabad, Riyadh vow to work for stability in S. Asia, ME

• Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on July 27, 2021 vowed to take bilateral ties to new heights under a strategic direction set by the top leadership of the two countries in May this year.
• Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud, while speaking at a press conference with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi following delegation level talks between the two sides, expressed Riyadh`s keen desire to bolster relationship with Islamabad and said the kingdom was looking to expand the dimensions of relationship with Pakistan through the Saudi-Pakistan Supreme Coordination Council (SP-SCC)

2. Cabinet gives the green light to cyber security policy

• The federal cabinet on July 27, 2021 approved the National Cyber Security Policy 2021 that allows establishment of a national cyber security response framework as the government constituted the Cyber Governance Policy Committee to implement the policy.
• As per the policy, a cyberattack on any institution of Pakistan will be considered an act of aggression against national sovereignty and all necessary and retaliatory steps would be taken. The committee will implement the policy at the national level, determine a strategy in a timely manner and take timely action. The commit-tee comprises the secretaries and senior officers of 13 different departments/organisations.
• Earlier, various organisations were addressing cyber security related issues in silos.

3. PM appoints Jawad Paul as SC registrar

• Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Jawad Paul as registrar of the Supreme Court.
• Mr Paul is currently posted as additional secretary at the Prime Minister Office and takes care of matters involving civil bureaucracy, etc.
• He is a BS-21 officer but has been appointed to the BS-22 post of SC registrar under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973.
• Under the law, the competent authority can appoint an officer to a post that`s in the next grade.

4. Spectrum auction policy approved

• The government on July 27, 2021 approved a new spectrum policy for commercial auction of next generation mobile and internet service after which connectivity of mobile phones and broadband facility will improve in urban as well as far-flung areas of the country.
• The decision was taken at a meeting of the federal cabinet presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
• At present, the county has 4-G (fourth generation) facility and after the new policy 5-G (fifth generation) service will be available to the people

5. Taliban start collecting taxes in Spin Boldak, Wesh areas

• Taliban, who captured the Afghan border district of Spin Boldak early this month, on July 27, 2021 imposed new tariff and started collecting taxes on goods coming into Afghanistan or going to Pakistan, a day after Pakistan reopened the border for trade activities after a suspension of over two weeks because of the fighting between Taliban and Afghan security troops.
• The border was sealed by Pakistan after heavy fighting in Spin Boldak and Wesh areas of Afghanistan between Taliban and Afghan government forces

6. Blinken`s India visit puts HR, China on table

• US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in India on July 27, 2021 to discuss strengthening Indo-Pacific engagement, seen as a counter to China, as well as New Delhi`s recent human rights record and other issues.
• Blinken`s visit includes meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior officials on Wednesday, and comes just days after his No. 2 diplomat, Wendy Sherman, was in China for face-to-face talks.
• Washington has long viewed India as a key partner in efforts to blunt increasing Chinese assertiveness in the region. The US and India are part of the Quad a group that also includes Japan and Australia allies in the region helping deal with China`s growing economic and military strength.

7. Bhutan fully vaccinates 90pc of eligible adults within a week

• The Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has fully vaccinated 90pc of its eligible adult population within just seven days, its health ministry said on July 27, 2021.
• The tiny country, wedged between India and China and home to nearly 800,000 people, began giving out second doses on July 20 in a mass drive that has been hailed by UNICEF as arguably the fastest vaccination campaign to be executed during a pandemic.
• In April, Bhutan grabbed headlines when its government said it had inoculated around the same percentage of eligible adults with the first dose in under two weeks after India donated 550,000 shots of AstraZeneca vaccine.

8. Pakistani teenager sets new record by scaling K2 as well

• Nineteen year-old Pakistani mountaineer, Shehroze Kashif, has become the youngest person to summit the world`s second highest mountain, K2, only two months after scaling the mighty Mount Everest.
• Kashif reached the 8,611metre (28,251-foot) summit at 8:10am on Tuesday, according to the Alpine Club of Pakistan.
• The teenage mountaineer had earlier scaled the world`s 12th highest mountain, 8,047-metre (26,400foot) Broad Peak, when he was only 17.

9. Biles fails in gold bid as Osaka crashes out

• Simone Biles` bid to launch a history-making gold rush at the Tokyo Olympics fell apart after a single vault on July 27, 2021 when the gymnast superstar pulled out of the team event, and her American team mates were beaten to the title by the Russians.
• The late-night drama was a fitting end to a day which had begun under the threat of a storm and featured the loss of the face of these Games, tennis player Naomi Osaka

10. Mahoor exits after second defeat, Haseeb finishes 62nd out of 70

• Pakistan`s Mahoor Shahzad exited the women`s singles badminton tournament at the Tokyo Olympics on July 27, 2021 while her countryman Haseeb Tariq finished 62nd out of 70 competitors in the heats for the men`s 100m freestyle swimming competition.
• Having lost her Group `L` opener to Japan`s Akane Yamaguchi on Saturday, Mahoor needed a win to stay in contention but came up short 14-21, 14-21 to Britain`s Kirsty Gilmour at the Musashino Forest Sports Plaza
