1. Punjab gets four-day work week
• The Punjab government on December 7, 2022 told the Lahore High Court that all public and private schools in the provincial capital will remain closed on every Friday and Saturday, in addition to the weekly holiday on Sunday, until further orders due to the worsening smog situation.
• A provincial lawo fficer also presented a notification issued by the school education secretary to this effect before Justice Shahid Karim, who had asked the government to notify the closure of schools in Lahore for at least three days a week.
• The law officer also presented another notification by the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) regarding the closure of all private offices in Lahore for two days in a week Friday and Saturday till Jan 15, 2023. However, the staff may work from home
2. `Pakistan to be 6th top economy by 2075`
• A research paper published by international investment bank Goldman Sachs said Pakistan may well be the sixth largest economy in the world by 2075 given `appropriate policies and institutions` are in place.
• Written by economists Kevin Daly and Tadas Gedminas and titled `The Path to 2075,` the paper projects that the five largest economies by 2075 will be China, India, United States, Indonesia and Nigeria.
• Goldman Sachs has been projecting long-term growth of countries for almost two decades. It has expanded these projections to cover 70 emerging and developed economies for the last 10 years.
• The latest paper covers 104 countries with projections going as f ar as 2075
3. US to tighten noose around TTP, IS-K: State Dept
• The United States has pledged to further tighten the noose around militant groups such as the Islamic State-Khorasan (IS-K) and the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), as the two terrorist outfits step up their activities in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
• `We have seen the reports that IS-Khas claimed responsibility for the attack,` a US State Department spokesperson told Dawn on Wednesday, days after militants targeted Pakistan`s Chargé d`Affaires Ubaid Nizamani in Kabul and severely injured an embassy guard, who shielded the diplomat.
• `We remain committed to further degrading Al Qaeda, IS-K, TTP, and other terrorist groups that pose a threat to the US and our partners and allies, the spokesperson added

4. First school for transgenders inaugurated
• The Punjab School Education Department (SED) on December 7, 2022 inaugurated first transgender school in the provincial capital to educate and teach skills to transpersons.
• Punjab Minister for School Education Murad Raas cut the ribbon to inaugurate the school in New Garden Town near Barkat Market. A number of civil society activists, educationists, transgender persons and others were present on the occasion.
• During the last year, the department had already established three transgender schools in Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan. These institutes were providing free education from primary to higher secondary classes along with training of three skills, including stitching and sewing, cooking and beauty make-up
5. US donates $7.5m oxygen supplies to Pakistan
• The US government on December 7, 2022 donated $7.5 million worth of medical oxygen supplies to the health ministry to continue its fight against Covid-19 and train 163 hospitals staff throughout Pakistan to increase their capability to treat patients suffering from lung diseases.
• The amount was handed over to the Federal Minister of Health Abdul Qadir Patel through the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
• In his remarks, Mr Patel said: “We are thankful to the US government for their continued support during Covid-19 and especially during the recent floods.”
• He said these efforts reflected the strong bilateral relations between the two countries
