1. Pakistan, China vow to work for Afghan stability
• At `productive` trilateral talks on May 6, 2023, Pakistan and China assured Afghanistan of their cooperation so that the conflict-torn country begins its journey towards stability.

2. SC imposes fine on defence ministry in food contract case
• The Supreme Court on May 6, 2023 imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the Ministry of Defence for abusing the process of law for filing a vexatious and frivolous claims and thus wasting the precious time of courts.
• A three-judge bench comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and Justice Shahid Waheed rejected the plea moved by the defence ministry against the dismissal of their plea by the Lahore High Court on Sept 7, 2020.
• Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, in a four-page order he authored, imposed a fine of Rs100,000 and directed the petitioner to deposit the costs in a charitable organisation of their choice within a month from the receipt of the order and acknowledged the same to the Supreme Court registrar for perusal of judges in chambers
3. Nadra, Virtual Remittance Gateway join hands to enhance digital payments
• The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) on May 6, 2023 signed an agreement with Virtual Remittance Gateway (VRG) to launch a `billing switch` project.
• Under the agreement, NIS payment collection and interoperable services will be made available at Nadra e-Sahulat centres to the over 7.7 million Asaan mobile account holders.
• `Nadra and VRG`s collaboration marks a significant step forward for the digital financial services industry in the country.

4. Bilawal, Jaishankar`s exchange termed `normal` for current state of relationship
• While India and Pakistan did not hold bilateral talks on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation foreign ministers` meeting, their sparring at a multilateral stage has underlined the need for South Asia`s two nuclear powers to stay engaged with each other.
• Pakistan did not request, nor did India offer, bilateral talks in Goa, though observers noted these multilateral talks `could lay the groundwork for future interactions between the archrivals,` as a report in the German media outlet DW pointed out.

5. Over 50 dead as ethnic clashes flare up in India
• India`s northeastern Manipur state remained tense on May 6, 2023 after clashes broke out between predominantly Hindu Meitei and Christian Kuki groups on Wednesday over moves to accord tribal status to the dominant Meiti group, reports said.
• Vehicles, houses, schools, churches and commercial properties were set ablaze by protesting mobs after the Tribal Solidarity March, organised by the All Tribal Students` Union of Manipur, to protest against the Meitei community`s demand to be included in the list of Scheduled Tribes.
• Manipur DGP said the situation in the state improved after the intervention of security forces. As many as 54 peo-ple have lost their lives in the violence, officials told Press Trust of India
