1. Pakistan, China resolve to expand CPEC

• Reaffirming the commitment to all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, China and Pakistan December 10, 2018 expressed their resolve on early completion of ongoing projects and expansion of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor to new areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of two neighbouring states.
• The first round of political consultation between Pakistan and China held here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also discussed the international political situation with a particular focus on Afghanistan and South Asia.
• Chinese delegation head Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou besides leading his delegation in the first round of political consultations with Pakistan also held separate meetings with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
• In the political consultations Pakistan side was led by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua. Both sides held comprehensive discussions on the entire gamut of bilateral relations. They reaffirmed all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries and expressed their satisfaction at the strong bilateral ties in political, economic, security, cultural and other spheres.
• The two sides also agreed to build upon the consensus reached between the leadership of two countries during the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to China

2. Health programme launched in 1,700 Punjab schools

• The Punjab government launched on December 10, 2018 School Health and Nutrition programme in 1,700 schools of the province.
• Punjab Ministers Dr Murad Raas and Dr Yasmin Rashid inaugurated the programme at the Government Central Model School, Lower Mall.
• The government had launched an android phone application with the help of the Punjab Information Technology Board and the Secondary Healthcare Commission to monitor the programme.
• The programme will cater to students of 1,700 schools of the nine districts Lahore, Bhakkar, Jhang, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Mianwali and Sargodha.

3. Lt-Gen Majid Ehsan appointed as Corps Commander of Lahore

• Lt-Gen Majid Ehsan has been appointed as Corps Commander of Lahore, says a statement issued here by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) on December 10, 2018.
• It further says Lt-Gen Amir Riaz has been appointed as President of the National Defence University

4. India martyred 95,238 Kashmiris in 28 years

• In Indian occupied Kashmir Indian troops in their unabated acts of state terrorism, martyred 95,238 innocent Kashmiris, including 7,120 in custody, since January 1989 till date.
• A report released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service on the occasion of the World Human Rights Day, today, revealed that these killings rendered 22,894 women widowed and 107,551 children orphaned.
• The report said that the troops molested or disgraced 11,107 women and damaged 109,191 residential houses and other structures. It maintained that Indian troops and police subjected at least 8,000 people to custodial disappearance in the period.
• The report pointed out that during this year alone, Indian forces and police personnel martyred 350 Kashmiris including PhD scholars, engineering students and Hurriyet leaders, Professor Dr Muhammad Rafi Butt, Dr Manan Bashir Wani, Dr Sabzar Ahmad Sofi , Dr Abdul Ahad Ganai, M-Phil student Aedimad Fayaz Mali, Muhammad Esha Fazali (24-year-old eng graduate), Syed Oais Shafi Shah (eng graduate ) , Aasif Ahmad Malik (28- year old B Tech engineer), THK leader, Mir Hafizulla, Muslim League leader, Tariq Ahmad Ganie, Hurriyet leader, Mohammad Yousuf Rather alias Yousuf Nadeem and THK leader, Hakim-ul-Rehman Sultani and arrested over 2,348 people including minor boys, youth, students, females and Hurriyet leaders and activists and put them in jails and in houses.

5. Oman has allowed Israeli planes to use airspace

• Oman will let Israeli planes fly through its airspace, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on December 10, 2018, in another sign of his country`s efforts towards ties with Arab states despite the conflict with the Palestinians.
• The announcement follows Netanyahu`s surprise visit to Oman in October.
• Only two Arab countries Jordan and Egypt officially recognize Israel.
• `When I was in Oman I spoke with Sultan Qaboos, who told me El Al would be able to fly over Oman,` Netanyahu said.
• The permission however provides Israel with little immediate practical use since its planes cannot fly over Oman`s neighbour Saudi Arabia.
• Saudi Arabia in March began allowing Air India flights between New Delhi and Tel Aviv to use its airspace, but not Israeli carriers.

6. Chinese court bans iPhone sales in patent dispute

• A Chinese court ordered a ban in the country on iPhone sales in a patent dispute between US chip maker Qualcomm and Apple, according to a Qualcomm statement December 10, 2018.
• The statement said the Fuzhou Intermediate People`s Court had granted Qualcomm`s request for two preliminary injunctions against four subsidiaries of Apple, ordering them to immediately to stop selling the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.
• The move marked the latest in a long-running dispute over patents and royalties between the two California tech giants playing out in courts and administrative bodies worldwide.
• `Apple continues to benefit from our intellectual property while refusing to compensate us.

7. UN adopts global migration pact rejected by US

• Defying fierce opposition from the United States nearly 85 per cent of the countries at the UN agreed on December 10, 2018 on a sweeping yet non-binding accord to ensure safe, orderly and humane migration.
• A total of 164 countries among the 193 UN members approved the agreement.
• `Unregulated migration bears a terrible human cost: a cost in lives lost on perilous journeys across deserts, oceans and rivers; and a cost in lives ruined at the hands of smugglers, unscrupulous employers and other predators,` UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told a migration conference in Marrakech, Morocco, the UN press release said. `More than 60,000 migrants have died on the move since the year 2000,` he said. `This is a source of collective shame.

8. Roger the kangaroo: Enormous roo dies aged 12

• Roger, a kangaroo who won global fame for his enormous size and impressive physique, has died at the age of 12.
• The roo was rescued as a joey after his mother was killed in a car accident, and grew up at the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs in Australia.
• And he grew up a lot – ending up more than 2m (6ft 7) tall and weighing 89kg (196lbs).
• The sanctuary announced his death from old age at the weekend, saying they had lost their “beautiful boy”. “He was still a baby when I saved him from his mother’s pouch after she’d gotten killed on the highway,” Chris “Brolga” Barns told the BBC.

9. Indian historian Mushirul Hasan passes away

• Leading Indian historian and a scholar of pahition, Professor Mushirul Hasan, died on December 10, 2018. He was 69.
• Professor Hasan met with a road accident on his way to Mewat in November 2014, and was under care at his home. He is credited with transforming as its vice chancellor Jamia Milia Islamia into a globally connected university, hosting international seminars and lectures by prominent thinkers and intellectuals.
• His contribution at the Jamia included setting up several halls named after renowned figures. One of them was the Mir Taqi Mir hall, while others that sprang up during his watch were named after Noam Chomsky, Fidel Castro, Nelson Mandela among others.

10. Egypt`s Ibrahim wins CNS Open for maiden title in Pakistan

• Riding on the crest of a wave, unseeded Egyptian Youssef Ibrahim carved out a victory over third seed Farhan Mehboob in the final to clinch his maiden international squash title in Pakistan on December 10, 2018.
• Youthful Ibrahim overcame little resistance from his opponent to record a 11-7, 12-10, 11-8 victory in the 32-minute final of the US $18,000 13th CNS International Squash Championship at the PN Roshan Khan-Jahangir Khan Squash Complex on Monday.
