Crucifying Act in Society

Crucifying Act in Society

Harassment in the workforce and recreational places has been entrenched in the history of Pakistan since its inception. A large number of migrants were harassed, molested, raped, and even killed brutally .

While Pakistan was being liberated from the clutches of Hindus on 14th August 1947, the aim of battling for this land was to overshadow the influence of pagans on Muslim society. The charismatic personality; Quaid-e-Azam, devoted his youth to infuse a new spirit of patriotism and vigour in the dormant bodies of the Muslims. The day of 14th August is usually celebrated with zeal and zest; patriotic display in formal and non-formal institutions, public and private places can be seen extensively. But what is the use of such chauvinist display?

When the mindset of such a society is stuffed with rubble. The heart-wrenching incident on the 74rth anniversary of Pakistan at Quaid’s place ( Minar-e-Pakistan) is the black spot on the glory of the nation. A chaste young woman; Ayesha Akram, a renowned TikTok star has become a victim of a brutal assault. A ground full of men roughly 400 present there, disgraced a woman; who had been there for the video shoot of her YouTube channel. How shameful and inhumane acts practised by the spectators that no one even dared to hold up the barbaric crowd to save victimized girl engrossed in the wild snare of society. Her clothes had been torn down, for four hours she had been crying for mercy but no one approached her help. In her interview with the Daily Pakistan news anchor, she pinpointed the laxness of institutions that were to spring up aiming to provide justice to downtrodden people. Alas! Her shattered voice was airing the message of insecurity, gender disparity, dysfunctional institutions, and lawlessness. Thousands of such women are sexually assaulted and harassed daily either in glass ceiling or in public places. In this patriarchal society, such brutal acts have become the order of the day. According to Geo news investigation, only 41% of cases are reported to the police while others do not file case against culprits due to family pressure and other loopholes in the order system.

Retrospectively, Multiple Acts have been passed, initiatives have been taken from time to time but of no use. The people who are at the helm of affairs don’t take any concrete step to punish the culprit savagely. There is no use in just passing these Laws when the implementation process is staggered. Such a scenario is manifesting grave implications for the future of Pakistan.

To iron out this menace from society and to push Pakistan towards development and progress, the need of the hour is to figure out the root cause of such activities performed on local or state levels. It is a dire need to implement Laws and Acts in true letter and spirit. Heavy security or rangers must be on guard on such days of commemoration and jubilation.

Police departments should be vigilant and reach the scene instantly. The judicial process must be given impetus so that quandaries of victims can be addressed and they should be saved from immense loss. Last but not the least, convicts must be choked to death or hanged publicly to eschew such situations in future.
