1. India `involved in killings` on Pakistani soil

Pakistan on Thursday presented `credible evidence` implicating India in the orchestrated assassinations of two Pakistani citizens last year within its own borders.
`We have credible evidence of links between Indian agents and the assassination of two Pakistani nationals on Pakistani soil, Foreign Secretary Syrus Sajjad Qazi said at a media briefing while sharing details of what he described as a `sophisticated and sinister` campaign of targeted extrajudicial killings on Pakistani soil


2. Unlike 2018, troops to stay outside polling stations

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared on Thursday that, in a departure from the 2018 general elections, army officials assigned to election security will be stationed outside polling stations during the upcoming Feb 8 polls.
`Pakistan armed forces and civil armed forces shall assist in the provision of a secure environment by deploying in quick reaction force mode and outside selected `most sensitive` polling stations from Feb 5 to Feb 10 to assist the Election Commission of Pakistan in the conduct of elections in a free, fair and transparent manner,` the ECP said in a notification, seen by Dawn

3. Pakistan asks UN to protect Muslim sites in India

Following religious clashes sparked by the opening this week of a controversial Hindu temple in India, Pakistan has urged the United Nations to take action for the protection of Islamic sites in the country.
Pakistan`s UN envoy Munir Akram shared the plea during an OIC ambassadorial meeting at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday, condemning the recent consecration of the Ram temple on the site of the demolished Babri Masjid


4. PM invites Saudi group to invest in alternative energy sector

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Thursday urged the Al-Jomaih Group of Saudi Arabia to invest in the alternative energy sector of Pakistan.
Mr Kakar, in a meeting with a four-member delegation, led by the Al-Jomaih Group head Sheikh Abdulaziz Hammad, said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had brotherly ties which were getting further stronger. Al-Jomaih earlier made a huge investment in K-Electric


5. Higher SBP reserves keep exchange rate stable

After inflows from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the foreign exchange reserves of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased enough to cover 1.6 months of imports, helping the exchange rate to remain stable.
The SBP reported on Thursday that the reserves of the central bank went up by $243 million to $8.27 billion during the week ending on Jan 19

6. Israel kills 20 Palestinians in strike on queue

Authorities in Gaza Strip said on Thursday that Israeli forces had killed 20 people waiting for humanitarian aid to be distributed, as Israel pressed its blistering assault in the besieged territory.
The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said the attack occurred on the outskirts of Gaza City, in the north of the territory, with 150 people also wounded


7. Iraq, US to hold talks on future of coalition troops

Baghdad and Washington have agreed to set up a committee to start talks on the future of the US-led military coalition in Iraq with the aim of setting a timetable for a phased withdrawal of troops and the coalition`s end, Iraq`s foreign ministry said.
The United States has 2,500 troops in Iraq, advising and assistinglocalforces to prevent a resurgence of the militant Islamic State group, which in 2014 seized large parts of Iraq and Syria before being defeated. Hundreds of troops from mostly European countries are also part of the coalition


8. US assails Israeli attack on UN facility in Gaza

The United States has condemned the Israeli assault on a UN facility in Khan Yunis, emphasising the protection of civilians and the need to respect the sanctity of UN facilities.
`You`ve heard me say it before, you`ve heard [Secretary of State Antony Blinken] say it before… civilians must be protected, and the protected nature of UN facilities must be respected,` the State Department`s spokesperson Vedant Patel told reporters in Washington


9. British museums to return looted royal Ghana treasures

The British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum will give back gold and silver artifacts looted during colonial times from Ghana`s Asante royal court, the museums and the palace said on Thursday.
The Ghana agreement for a long-term loan of the items comes as international momentum grows for museums and institutions to restore African artefacts from former colonial powers Britain, France, Germany and Belgium


10. Japanese craft makes successful, pin-point Moon landing

Japan`s `Moon Sniper` craft made a pinpoint lunar landing despite last-minute engine problems, the space agency said on Thursday as it released the first images from the mission.
A photo taken by a mini rover showed the boxy yellow lander sitting intact at a slight angle on the rocky grey surface, lunar slopes rising in the distance.
The unmanned Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) dubbed the `Moon Sniper` for its precision technology had the goal of touching down within 100 metres (330 feet) of a specific landing spot on a crater
