1. Govt finally challenges overturning of NAB law amendments

The federal government has finally moved the much-anticipated intra-court appeal (ICA) against the Supreme Court`s majority judgement, declaring amendments to the antigraft law illegal.
Moved through senior counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan, the government also sought 15 days to file additional documents with a plea that the majority decision was against the facts of the case and contrary to the law.
On Sept 15, the Supreme Court by a majority of two to one ruled that the public representatives who benefited from the amendments made by the PDM government in the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) will have to face corruption references again

In order to meet energy requirement of the country, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Tuesday invited China to invest in solar parks to help reduce Pakistan`s energy import bill and support the country`s fight against climate change.

The Punjab government on Tuesday approved the expansion of the jurisdiction of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) across the province to protect and restore historical and ancient structures.
During the session of the Punjab Cabinet, it was decided to establish a relationship between the cities of Bukhara and Lahore as the cabinet ratified the agreement formalising Bukhara and Lahore as twin cities

4. Inhumane Israel kills hundreds in strike on hospital

Hundreds of Palestinians were killed on Tuesday when Israel carried out air strikes on a hospital and a refugee camp in Gaza, where people had sought shelter to escape the relentless bombing on residential areas, according to the health ministry.
The strikes came as world leaders intensified efforts to find a solution to the crisis, which has already resulted in the killing of over 3,000 Palestinians in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip since Oct 7

5. Lebanon-Israel border clashes escalate, five Hezbollah fighters killed

Israeli troops killed at least four fighters attempting to breach the border from Lebanon on Tuesday, the army said, as tensions run high on the border between the two countries.
Since Oct 8, Israel has traded fire on a near-daily basis with Hezbollah and Palestinian fighters in Lebanon. The Israeli army said its forces opened fire on fighters when they attempted to cross the northern border with Lebanon on Tuesday morning. Hezbollah said five of its fighters had been killed `performing jihad`. It was not clear if these were the same ones who Israel had accused of trying to infiltrate the border

6. India`s top court refuses to legalise same-sex marriages

India`s top court refused on Tuesday to legalise same-sex marriages but said the country had a duty to acknowledge LGBTQ relationships and to protect them from discrimination.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s government has opposed moves to legally codify same-sex partnerships in the five years since the Supreme Court struck down colonial-era laws banning gay sex.
Lawyers for several same-sex couples urged the court earlier this year to grant their relationships full legal recognition, but the five-member bench ruled that extending marriage equality was a parliamentary decision

7. UN Security Council rejects Russian resolution on Middle East

The UN Security Council on Monday rejected a Russian resolution condemning spiraling violence in the Middle East, with delegates refusing to back a motion that did not single out Hamas for its surprise raid on Israel.
Just four countries voted with Russia on its proposed text. Four others including the US voted against, while six abstained

9. Harun the hero as Pakistan make World Cup qualifying history

Harun Hamid`s goal will go down in history; the win will script the future of Pakistan football.
This was massive, almost ethereal. It was some way to end a 34-year long wait in front of a raucous crowd that had gathered for the team`s first home game in over eight years.
In 34 matches since Pakistan first entered qualifying for the FIFA World Cup back in 1989, they had failed to win a single game. That`s why it meant so much. For the players, who sank to the ground in tears at the final whistle. For the fans, who had gathered on a damp afternoon at the Jinnah Stadium on Tuesday to cheer them on

10. Edwards leads from the front as Dutch humble SA again

The Netherlands defeated mighty South Africa by 38 runs at the ICC World Cup in Dharamsala on Tuesday as the European outsiders humiliated the Proteas for the second time in a year.
Chasing 246 to win from a rain-reduced 43 overs after Dutch captain Scott Edwards made a crucial 78 not out, South Africa, one of the tournament favourites, were bowled out for 207 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium
