1. Govt finally challenges overturning of NAB law amendments
The federal government has finally moved the much-anticipated intra-court appeal (ICA) against the Supreme Court`s majority judgement, declaring amendments to the antigraft law illegal.
Moved through senior counsel Makhdoom Ali Khan, the government also sought 15 days to file additional documents with a plea that the majority decision was against the facts of the case and contrary to the law.
On Sept 15, the Supreme Court by a majority of two to one ruled that the public representatives who benefited from the amendments made by the PDM government in the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) will have to face corruption references again
2. Pakistan seeks investment in solar parks to cut energy bill
In order to meet energy requirement of the country, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Tuesday invited China to invest in solar parks to help reduce Pakistan`s energy import bill and support the country`s fight against climate change.
`Investments in solar parks would benefit two-fold. On one hand they will support Pakistan`s endeavours for climate action and also help reduce energy import bill,` the PM said while addressing 3rd Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation conference in China
3. Cabinet approves expansion of WCLA across Punjab
The Punjab government on Tuesday approved the expansion of the jurisdiction of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) across the province to protect and restore historical and ancient structures.
During the session of the Punjab Cabinet, it was decided to establish a relationship between the cities of Bukhara and Lahore as the cabinet ratified the agreement formalising Bukhara and Lahore as twin cities
4. Inhumane Israel kills hundreds in strike on hospital
Hundreds of Palestinians were killed on Tuesday when Israel carried out air strikes on a hospital and a refugee camp in Gaza, where people had sought shelter to escape the relentless bombing on residential areas, according to the health ministry.
The strikes came as world leaders intensified efforts to find a solution to the crisis, which has already resulted in the killing of over 3,000 Palestinians in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip since Oct 7
5. Lebanon-Israel border clashes escalate, five Hezbollah fighters killed
Israeli troops killed at least four fighters attempting to breach the border from Lebanon on Tuesday, the army said, as tensions run high on the border between the two countries.
Since Oct 8, Israel has traded fire on a near-daily basis with Hezbollah and Palestinian fighters in Lebanon. The Israeli army said its forces opened fire on fighters when they attempted to cross the northern border with Lebanon on Tuesday morning. Hezbollah said five of its fighters had been killed `performing jihad`. It was not clear if these were the same ones who Israel had accused of trying to infiltrate the border
