  1. Baloch culture day celebrated on 2 March
    • A Baloch culture day was organised in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan by different cultural organisations and political parties on March 2, 2018 in which a large number of people, especially the youth, participated with enthusiasm. They expressed love and affection for their culture and traditions.
    • People wearing traditional clothes and turbans paraded on roads. They performed folk dances and sang songs.
  2. Islamabad, Moscow hold talks, agree to improve ties
    • Pakistan and Russia on March 2, 2018 agreed to explore new avenues for bilateral cooperation to enhance the `existing positive momentum in ties`.
    • `Both sides agreed on the need to further capitalise on the positive trajectory of the overall bilateral relations by exploring avenues for mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation,` Foreign Office said after the 12th meeting of Pakistan-Russia Consultative Group on Strategic Stability.
    • The platform that provides for structured dialogue between the two countries has existed since 2003
  3. Study says there are five types of diabetes
    • Scientists on March 2, 2018 unveiled a revised classification for diabetes, one they said could lead to better treatments and help doctors more accurately predict life-threatening complications from the disease.
    • There are five distinct types of diabetes that can occur in adulthood, rather than the two currently recognised, they reported in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, a leading medical journal.
    • The findings are consistent with the growing trend towards `precision medicine`, which takes into account differences between individuals in managing disease.
  4. Police grill Israeli PM, wife in corruption case
    • Israeli police questioned Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife Sara on March 2, 2018 for the first time in a corruption case that involves the country`s largest telecommunications company.
    • Police confirmed that an anti-corruption unit had questioned the couple for several hours each, but did not say whether the questioning was in connection with the case of Bezeq Israel Telecom.
  5. Sindh Assembly passes public-private partnership and Kali Mori university bills
    • The Sindh Assembly on March 2, 2018 unanimously passed the Sindh Public-Private Partnership (Amendment) Bill, 2018, and the Government College (Kali Mori) University Hyderabad Bill, 2018.
    • When the house met in the morning, it took up the public-private partnership bill for consideration and passed it unanimously.
    • When the Government College University Hyderabad Bill was taken up for consideration after its introduction, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nisar Khuhro said the Government College Kali Mori Hyderabad was a historic institution which had celebrated its 100 years of dispensing knowledge last October.
  6. Navy launches heavy tug at Karachi shipyard
    • A 32-ton bollard pull tug built for Pakistan Navy was launched at a special ceremony at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works on March 2, 2018.
    • Secretary Ministry of Defence Production Lt-Gen (retd) Muhammad Ijaz Chaudhry was the chief guest. The ceremony was also attended by high ranking government officials, representatives of the corporate sector and KS&EW.
    • The KS&EW has so far constructed 23 tugs ranging from 10 to 40 tons BP for its customers. Currently, two 32 tons BP tugs are under construction. This tug has 34 meters overall length, with a displacement of 481 tons and a maximum speed of 12 knots.
  7. Makran Festival 2018 ceremony held in Turbat
    • The opening ceremony of the three-day Makran Festival 2018 was held at Kech Stadium, Turbat on March 2, 2018. Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa was the chief guest, an Inter-Services Public Relations statement said.
  8. Pakistan, China to exchange data from April 30 to check trade mispricing
    • Pakistan and China will start exchanging trade data digitally from April 30 in a bid to check under-invoicing of imports, amid swelling bilateral trade that is highly skewed in favour of the world’s second largest economy.
    • The platform’s beta testing is scheduled this month, an official in Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said.
    • Pakistani and Chinese authorities will sign a memorandum of understanding for data exchange. The draft of the agreement has already been finalised, they added.
  9. History made as every runner in 400m heat disqualified
    • Every runner, including the world’s fastest man this year, was disqualified in a bizarre 400 metres heat that made athletics history on the second day of the world indoor championships on March 2, 2018.
    • Bralon Taplin was among the casualties after appearing to qualify for the semi-finals later by winning the third heat comfortably in 46.37 seconds. But the Grenadan was ruled to have run out of his lane, along with the other three finishers, Jamaica’s Steven Gayle, Latvia’s Austris Karpinskis and Alonzo Russell from the Bahamas.
    • Another runner, Qatar’s Abdalelah Haroun, was earlier red carded for false starting in the same heat.It is the first time every athlete has been disqualified from a heat at a major championships, according to statistician Mark Butler.
