1. UAE, Israel have agreed to fully normalise ties: Trump
• The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel have agreed to fully normalise their relations, US President Donald Trump announced on August 13, 2020 while unveiling a trilateral document outlining key points of the peace deal.
• `HUGE breakthrough today! Historic Peace Agreement between our two GREAT friends, Israel and the United Arab Emirates! President Trump wrote in a tweet.
• Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to Trump`s tweet by writing in Hebrew: `Historic day`.
• This is only the third Israel-Arab peace deal since the Jewish state`s creation in 1948. Egypt signed a deal in 1979and Jordanin1994.
2. PM inaugurates much-awaited Peshawar BRT project
• Prime Minister Imran inaugurated the much-delayed Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) here on August 13, 2020.
• The premier went to the Chamkani bus depot at the eastern tip of the city to attend the opening ceremony in what was his first visit to the project since it was launched in October 2017.
• In his short speech, Mr Khan said the project was the country`s best metro service. Since the city was located on a single traffic artery running from Chamkani to Hayatabad, the project would help alleviate traffic congestion in the provincial capital, he said.
3. Cabinet amends rules to make south Punjab secretariat functional
• The Punjab cabinet approved here on August 14, 2020 amended rules of business of the provincial government making way for functioning of the south Punjab secretariat.
• The 34th meeting of the cabinet held with Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar in the chair, also approved amending the Factory Act to penalise the sugar mills not starting crushing season at officially notified schedule or paying the growers less than the official rates.
• With amendments to the rules of business, 2011, secretaries of 16 provincial departments will perform their duties at the southern Punjab secretariat, which will be administratively fully empowered so that people of the region won`t have to travel to Lahore for solution to their problems.
4. Convid-19 test mandatory before surgery in KP hospitals
• The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has made Covid-19 test compulsory for patients prior to undergoing surgery at public sector hospitals to know the exact quantum of the infection among the people.
• The measure has been taken in the fulfilment of the guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation in April.
• the Covid-19 has now become part of the pre-screening for all patients undergoing surgeries, like hepatitis B and C.
5. Pakistan opens Chaman border for trade
• Amid tight security, Pakistan has opened its border with Afghanistan at Chaman for resuming Afghan transit trade and other business activities after a high level meeting held in the border town recently took a decision to this effect.
• Official sources said that 317 trucks loaded with dried fruit and other goods crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan on Wednesday and Thursday under an import and export agreement.
• A senior official in the town`s administration said that border authorities allowed over 300 long-body trucks carrying Afghan transit goods to cross into Afghanistan after completing Customs and other legal formalities. The trucks had been waiting for many weeks in Chaman
6. Five FATF-related bills referred to Senate bodies
• The Upper House of Parliament on Thursday refereed five government bills related to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to the concerned committees for further deliberation which were passed by the National Assembly a day earlier.
• Four bills were moved by State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan and a bill by Minister for Narcotics Control Muhammad Azam Khan Swati.
• Leader of the opposition Raja Zafarul Haq said that it was agreed that the bills would be referred to concerned committees for detailed discussion following which the Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani agreed on it
7. Shibli unveils Marconi Transmitter Memorial
• Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz August 13, 2020 unveiled the Marconi Transmitter Memorial as part of the Independence Day celebrations at the National Broadcasting House (Radio Pakistan), Islamabad.
• This antique transmitter was installed at Manawan Lahore in 1937, broadcast creation of Pakistan on the midnight falling between August 13 and 14, 1947.
8. Pakistan exports 120,000 tonnes of mangoes during 2020
• Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research has said that Pakistan has exported 120,000 tonnes mangoes during 2020.
• During the peak of the pandemic, Pakistan exported mangoes to many countries of the world, said Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Syed Fakhar Imam on Thursday while attending Mango Festival at Centaurus Mall.
• During the peak of the pandemic, Pakistan exported mangoes to many countries of the world. The country has registered a sharp rise in the export of fruits and vegetables despite COVID-19.The fruit also helps sweeten diplomatic relations.
9. West Bank annexation still `on the table`, says Netanyahu
• Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on August 13, 2020 he agreed to delay annexation in the occupied West Bank as part of a normalisation deal with the UAE but the plans remain `on the table`.
• Netanyahu said that in agreement with US President Donald Trump he had `delayed` West Bank annexation plans, but that he would `never give up our rights to our land`.
• Netanyahu, like many in the Jewish state, refers to the occupied West Bank as Judea and Samaria and claims the territory as part of the historic homeland of the Jewish people.

10. Lebanon assembly ratifies state of emergency after deadly blast
• Lebanon`s parliament on August 13, 2020 approved a two-week state of emergency in Beirut, declared after last week`s gigantic portside explosion, giving the army greater powers to suppress resurgent protests.
• Top diplomats jetted in to show solidarity and contribute to the massive ongoing aid effort, but also to weigh in on political developments following a blast widely blamed on state corruption.
• A senior US envoy said the FBI would join the probe into the colossal blast that killed 171 people, injured thousands and reignited street protests demanding the ouster of the entire political elite
