1. OIC asks India to rescind illegal acts in held Kashmir

• Amid conflicting reports whether the Kashmir issue was on the agenda of an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation`s meeting in Niger, the foreign ministers of the OIC`s member states in a diplomatic victory for Pakistan unanimously reaffirmed support for the Kashmir cause.
• In another landmark development, the OIC unanimously adopted a Pakistan-sponsored resolution urging the UN Secretary General to initiate a global dialogue to counter rising Islamophobia and promote interfaith harmony.

2. Govt introduces smart e-card scheme to resolve problems of daily wage earners

• Punjab government has introduced a modern smart e-card scheme to solve the problems related to social security of daily wage earners and their 100 percent registration.
• Under this scheme, the employer will have to pay only the contribution for the same period in which he had hired a laborer. This was stated by Rana Riaz Ahmed, Director Punjab Employees Social Security Institution (PESSI) Faisalabad during a meeting at Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) on November 28, 2020.

3. Country borrowed $3.18 billion from external sources in four months

• Pakistan borrowed $3.18 billion from external sources during first four months (July to October) of the current fiscal year to maintain its foreign exchange reserves.
• The borrowing from external sources remained lower due to the Covid-19, which had slowed down the pace of the development projects in the country. The borrowing in four months is only 26 percent of the total budgeted external loans of $12.233 billion for the entire fiscal year. In the month of October, the government had borrowed $327.79 million external inflows from multiple financing sources including $231.66 million from foreign commercial banks, according to the official of ministry of Economic Affairs

• The 13th International Urdu Conference organised by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi will be held from Dec 3 to Dec 6, announced council president Ahmed Shah at a press conference held on November 28, 2020 afternoon.
• Mr Shah said this is the 13th edition of the conference and this time round things are different due to the pandemic that the whole world is affected by.

5. China`s first domestically-made nuclear reactor goes online

• China has powered up its first domestically developed nuclear reactor the Hualong One a significant step in Beijing`s attempts to become less dependent on Western allies for energy security and critical technology.
• The reactor, which was connected to the national grid on Friday, can generate 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year and cut carbon emissions by 8.16 million tons, according to China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
• `This marks China breaking the monopoly of foreign nuclear power technology and officially entering the technology`s first batch of advanced countries,` CNNC said in a statement

6. UK, EU resume face-to-face trade talks with time running out

• Teams from Britain and the European Union resumed face-to-face talks on a post-Brexit trade deal on November 28, 2020, with both sides sounding gloomy about striking an agreement in the little time that remains.
• EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier returned to London to meet his UK counterpart David Frost.
• Talks have been held virtually for the past week as Barnier completed a spell of self-isolation after a member of his team tested positive for the coronavirus

• Pope Francis created 13 new cardinals on November 28, 2020 including the first African-American putting his personal stamp on the body that will one day choose his successor.

8. Human brain cells could be gene-edited: Study

• Cells in the human brain could one day be edited by scientists to prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease, a new study suggests. The causes of Alzheimer’s are still not well understood, but a leading theory is that it is triggered by the build-up of a protein called beta-amyloid outside the brain cells.
• Researchers from Laval University in Canada have been investigating how a key gene in human nerve cells could reduce the formation of this protein. Many variants of this gene increases beta-amyloid production, but one variant, called A673T, instead reduces it. A673T was first discovered in 2012, and is only active in one in 150 people in Scandinavia, but those that have it are four times less likely to get Alzheimer’s.

9. Nanotechnology may lead to new covid-19 tests

• Scientists at Osaka University develop a label-free method for identifying respiratory viruses based on changes in electrical current when they pass through silicon nanopores, which may lead to new rapid COVID-19 tests.
• The ongoing global pandemic has created an urgent need for rapid tests that can diagnose the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the pathogen that causes COVID-19, and distinguish it from other respiratory viruses.
• Now, researchers from Japan have demonstrated a new system for single-virion identification of common respiratory pathogens using a machine learning algorithm trained on changes in current across silicon nanopores.

10. Brilliant Bairstow powers England to victory in first T20

• England`s Jonny Bairstow bludgeoned a brilliant unbeaten 86 from 48 balls as the tourists chased down 180 to beat South Africa by five wickets with four balls to spare on a slow wicket in the first Twenty20 International at Newlands on November 28, 2020.
• Sent into bat, South Africa posted a respectable 179 for six in their 20 overs, before claiming early wickets to have England in trouble in their reply. But Bairstow, batting in an unfamiliar number four position, led the fightback as he sat deep in his crease and smashed nine fours and four sixes with the kind of exquisite timing few other batsmen found on the day
