1. Punjab doles out massive uplift funds for PTI legislators

• The Usman Buzdar government on June 14, 2021 rolled out its Rs2,232.7 billion fiscally expansionary, growth budget for the next financial year that doles out massive funds for the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf legislators for execution of development projects in their constituencies under the district development package, proposes launching of a universal health insurance scheme and implementation of infrastructure projects across Punjab.
• The provincial government has increased the size of its development spending for the next fiscal by more than 66per cent to Rs560bn from the outgoing year`s Rs337bn to fund the three-year generous Rs360bn district development package that will be spent mostly on the schemes recommended by the PTI legislators to give their voters something to feel good about the economy before the next elections. Besides, the government has allocated Rs80bn for its health insurance scheme, covering the entire population of the province, which will be rolled out by the end of December, and Rs189bn for south Punjab development portfolio.

2. 35 per cent of ADP goes to south Punjab

• The province`s budget (2021-22) focuses on massive development in South Punjab, as a sum of Rs189.228 billion has been allocated for several ongoing and new projects in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur divisions.
• The allocation is 35 per cent of the total annual development programme (ADP) of the province.
• Of the total allocation, Rs35.702bn have been set aside for special initiatives, Rs14.083bn for planning & development, Rs875m for human rights & minority affairs, Rs248m for auqaf & religious affairs, Rs193m for archeology, Rs152m for information & culture, Rs15.362bn for school education, Rs4.866bn for higher education, Rs157m for special education, Rs1.015bn for literacy & non-formal education and Rs1.806bn for sports & youth affairs

3. 182pc increase in health budget

• While allocating Rs96 billion total health (development) budget for the fiscal year 2021-22, the Punjab government has earmarked for the first time Rs80 billion under universal health insurance programme for the 110 million population of the province.
• Under the programme, Punjab`s entire population will be provided free standard treatment at any designated private or public sector hospital in the province.
• The government has set a deadline of Dec 31, 2021 to register the residents of all the 36 districts of the province to start provision of free healthcare facility through the health insurance (Sehat Insaf Card)

4. FDE decides to promote students of classes 1 to 8 without exams

• The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) on June 14, 2021 decided to promote students of class one to eight without annual exams in the wake of the frequent closures of schools amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
• However, students are supposed to have at least four formative/classroom assessments per subject and the record should be available with their schools.
• Through a notification, the FDE announced that there will be no annual exams for class one to seven

5. Four FC men martyred in IED blast

• Four soldiers from Frontier Corps, Balochistan, including a junior commissioned officer, embraced martyrdom in a blast on the Marget-Quetta Road on June 14, 2021.
• According to an Inter-Services Public Relations release, terrorists used an improvised explosive device to target the FC troops who were employed on the road for security of Marget mines.
• The martyred soldiers were identified as Subedar Sardar Ali Khan, a resident of Lakki Marwat; Sepoy Musaddaf Hussain, a resident of Vehari; Sepoy Muhammad Anwar, who belonged to Dera Ismail Khan; and Sepoy Awais Khan, a resident of Neelum

6. Nato leaders declare China a global security challenge

• Nato leaders on June 14, 2021 declared that China poses a constant security challenge and is working to undermine global order, and they said they`re worried about how fast the Chinese are developing nuclear missiles.
• In a summit statement, the leaders said that China`s goals and assertive behaviour present systemic challenges to the rules-based international order and to areas relevant to alliance security

• New Zealand researchers scoured so-called `grey literature` including oral records, historic indigenous artworks and non-academic sources looking for links between Maori people and Antarctica

8. Head of world`s largest family dies in India

• A 76-yearold man who had 39 wives and 94 children and was said to be the head of the world`s largest family has died in north east India, the chief minister of his home state said.
• Ziona Chana, the head of a local Christian sect that allows polygamy, died on June 13, 2021, Zoramthanga, the chief minister of Mizoram and who goes by one name, said in a tweet.
• With a total of 167 members, the family is the world`s largest, according to local media, although this depends on whether you count the grandchildren, of whom Ziona has 33

9. Pakistan bag silver at Asian taekwondo event

• Pakistan team grabbed silver medal in the team Poomsae event at the Asian Taekwondo Championship in Beirut.
• Philippines` Nilcki Oliva, Kobe Macario, Juvenile Crisostomo, Jeordan Dominguez and Marvin Mori won gold medals in the said event.
• Freestyle taekwondo Over-17 category silver medallists Ayesha Noor, Najia Rasool, Hamza Saeed, Haroon Khan and Shahzeb Khan said, `We would like to thank Almighty Allah for this win against top-class performers from Asia.
