1. Punjab set to raise ADP by 77pc in its annual budget today

• Punjab is set to present huge Rs550bn Annual Development Programme (ADP) in its annual budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 being tabled today (June 13, 2021).
• The upcoming year`s ADP is 77.5pc higher than the ongoing Rs310bn programme ending on June 30. It focuses massive roads infrastructure development, social sector, health and education and public welfare, minorities and industry.
• `The Punjab`s annual budget will be people-friendly having a lot for all in various important sec-tors. We are also announcing a special package for the industrialists in addition to several welfare projects for the people,` Punjab Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht said on Sunday


2. NCOC launches video to convince people for vaccination

• The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on June 13, 2021 launched a video aimed at educating and convincing citizens about the importance of Covid-19 inoculation and removing their misconceptions.
• On the other hand, 56 deaths and 1,239 new cases were reported in a single day, with the positivity rate calculated at 3.4 per cent.
• According to data of the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS), 389,385 doses were given on June 12, taking the overall tally of vaccines administered to 11,085,787.


3. Unicef reassures Pakistan of support in fight against pandemic

• Regional Director of the United Nations International Children`s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) George Laryea-Adjei on Sunday said that Covid-related disruptions had had a devastating impact on the most vulnerable children and families over the past year and it was critical to ensure that lifesaving, essential services for children and mothers, including routine immunisation, kept running even as the pandemic continues.
• `Unicef will continue to support the government to respond to the pandemic and to build more resilient health and education systems that can reach every child,` said Unicef`s regional director for South Asia on the conclusion of his first official visit to Pakistan


4. Chagai to be linked with Gwadar, Afghan border

• The federal government is planning to connect the mineral-rich Chagai district with Gwadar seaport and neighboring Afghanistan through road networks.
• The newly proposed Nokundi to Mashkel road would be extended to Panjgur district while another proposed road from Dalbandin to Chagaicum-Ziyarat Balanoshi would be extended to Pak-Afghan border.
• Sources said those projects were proposed by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, who belongs to Nokundi town of Chagai district


5. Punjab to stop wheat procurement from 15th

• The Punjab government has decided to stop procurement of wheat across the province from June 15 (tomorrow).
• The Food Department had set a procurement target of 3.5 million tonnes and achieved the same by mid-May.
• But it decided to carry on with its grain buying drive until farmers would continue to bring the crop to procurement centres. So far it has bought 200,000 tonnes of wheat over and above the target.
• Food Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has directed the department to officially stop the procurement from tomorrow and help the flour mills to buy the leftover wheat


6. Erdogan offers to help US stabilise Afghanistan

• Just a day before his first face-to-face meeting with US President Joe Biden, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said Turkey will be the `only reliable` country left to stabilise Afghanistan after the United States pulls out its troops from the landlocked country, indicating Washington can rely on its NATO ally.
• Erdogan also said he would discuss the issue in his meeting with Biden on the margins of a NATO summit in Brussels on Monday, after strained relations between their two countries.


7. Russia accepts conditional handover of cyber criminals

• President Vladimir Putin has said Russia would be ready to hand over cyber criminals to the United States if Washington did the same for Moscow and the two powers reached an agreement to that effect.
• Putin made the comments in an interview aired in excerpts on state television on Sunday ahead of a June 16 summit with US President Joe Biden in Geneva. Ties between the powers are badly strained over an array of issues


8. Israeli MPs approve new coalition, end Netanyahu`s 12-year-rule

• Israel`s parliament narrowly approved a new coalition government on June 14, 2021, ending the 12-year rule of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and sending the polarising leader into the opposition.
• Naftali Bennett, a former ally of Netanyahu turned rival, became prime minister after a 60-59 vote in Knesset. Promising to try to heal a divided nation, Bennett will preside over a diverse and fragile coalition comprising eight parties with deep ideological differences


9. Turkish military hits targets in Syria after hospital attack

• Turkey`s military hit targets in the northern Syrian town of Tel Rifat in response to artillery attacks that killed 14 people and wounded several others in nearby Afrin.
• Ankara blame d Saturday`s attacks, including on a hospital, on the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the US-backed militia force spearheaded by the Kurdish YPG, has said it was not responsible


10. United bulldoze Qalandars in stunning turnaround

• Islamabad United completed an astounding turnaround in Abu Dhabi on June 13, 2021 as they surged to the top of the HBL Pakistan Super League 6 standings by sealing a an incredible 28-run victory over Lahore Qalandars at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
• Down and out in the early part of an absorbing contest, United clawed their way back from 20-5 through a record sixth wicket partnership of between Iftikhar Ahmed and man of the moment Asif Ali who hit their side of trouble by adding 123 in 76 deliveries
