1. Two cops, as many TLP workers die in Lahore clashes
• Two policemen and as many workers of the banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) were killed and several others injured after fierce clashes erupted between the TLP protesters and law enforcement agencies at Chauburji Chowk on October 22, 2021 night.
• Chauburji, Lower Mall and surrounding areas turned into battlefields with videos of the clashes showing police firing teargas shells to disperse the protesters who in return pelted the law enforcers with stones. Many TLP workers carrying clubs appeared to be fighting back when the riot police tried to disperse them.

2. Two troops martyred in North Waziristan
• Two soldiers were martyred and two others injured in a terrorist attack in North Waziristan tribal district on October 21, 2021.
• One terrorist was killed in the exchange of fire.
• Officials said that fighting between security forces and terrorists broke out near Miramshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan.
• The injured security personnel were taken to a paramilitary forces-run hospital in Miramshah.
3. Digital transactions record robust growth
• The digital financial transactions in the country showed a robust growth during the fiscal year 2020-21, replacing the conventional banking transactions faster than expectations of the banking industry.
• According to the State Bank`s latest Annual Payment Systems Review (PSR) for FY21 issued on Friday, the transactions pro-cessed through the SBP`s large value payments segment, known as Real-time Inter-Bank Settlement Mechanism (PRISM), recorded a growth of 60 per cent by volume and 12.8pc by value
4. PA body approves telemedicine bill
• The Sindh Assembly Standing Committee on Health on October 22, 2021 unanimously approved the draft Sindh Telemedicine and Tele Health Bill 2021.
• It will now be presented in the next session of the assembly for legislation. Once passed by the assembly, the act will be applicable across the province forthwith.
• The meeting was presided over by Dr Sohrab Sirki, the chairman of the standing committee. Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho and parliamentary secretary Qasim Soomro also attended it
5. Imran due in Riyadh today as Green Initiative summit opens
• Prime Minister Imran Khan will arrive in Saudi Arabia`s capital on October 23, 2021 to attend the launching ceremony of Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) Summit at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.
• The prime minister will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the foreign minister and other cabinet members, during his three-day official visit.
• At the summit, Mr Khan will share with the delegates his perspective on the challenges faced by developing countries due to climate change. He will also highlight Pakistan`s experience of launching nature-based solutions to address environmental challenges, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Friday
6. Japan agrees on $200m debt deferral
• Japan and Pakistan on October 22, 2021 agreed on debt deferral amounting to about $200 million as the second phase of the `G20 Debt Service Suspension Initiative`.
• Earlier in April, the two countries had agreed on the first debt deferral of about $370m under the same initiative.
• The total amount of deferred debt has now reached $570m, which will widen the fiscal space for the government of Pakistan to restore its economy affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Japanese embassy said in a press release
7. Melbourne reopens as world`s most locked-down city eases curbs
• Melbourne residents flocked to the city`s pubs, restaurants and hair salons in the early hours of October 22, 2021 after the world`s most locked-down city emerged from its latest spate of restrictions designed to combat the spread of Covid-19.
• Australia`s second-largest city has so far endured 262 days, or nearly nine months, of restrictions during six separate lockdowns since March 2020, representing the longest cumulative lockdown for any city in the world.
• Argentina`s capital, Buenos Aires, last year went through 234 straight days of lockdown
8. Coalition claims killing more than 90 Houthis in Yemen
• The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen said on October 22, 2021 it had killed at least 92 Houthi rebels in air strikes on two districts near the strategic city of Marib.
• The deaths are the latest among hundreds that the coalition says have been killed in recent fighting around Marib, and come during a second week of reported intense bombing.
• `Operations targeted 16 military vehicles and killed more than 92 terrorist elements` in the past 24 hours, the coalition said in a statement, carried by the official Saudi Press Agency
9. Namibia shock Ireland to make history
• Debutants Namibia reached the main draw of the T20 World Cup for the first time by beating Ireland by eight wickets on October 22, 2021, becoming the final team to qualify for the Super 12s.
• World number 19 Namibia, the lowest-ranked team in the tournament, chased down their modest target of 126 with skipper Gerhard Erasmus making an unbeaten 53.
• `We are a small country, a small number of people play cricket. We should be proud of ourselves,` said Erasmus
10. Netherlands fold up for 44 as SL top group
• Bowlers Wanindu Hasaranga and Lahiru Kumara set up a crushing eight-wicket win for Sri Lanka in the final round-one match of the Twenty20 World Cup after they skittled out Netherlands for 44 on October 22, 2021.
• Sri Lanka moved into the Super 12 stage with three wins and top of their group.
• Hasaranga and Kumara took three wickets each to sink the opposition who survived just 10 overs after being invited to bat first
