1. Govt calls parliament`s joint sitting tomorrow
• The government finally decided to convene a joint sitting of parliament on Wednesday to get controversial bills, including the one on the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), passed.
• To gain support for the legislation, Prime Minister Imran Khan convened a meeting of the government allies Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) on Monday. However, following the meeting, the coalition partners still remained uncertain about supporting the bills, including those related to EVMs and giving voting rights to over nine million overseas Pakistanis. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry, on the other hand, insisted that the government allies had expressed conndence in the leadership of Prime Minister Khan and assured him of voting in favour of the bills.
2. ECC okays Rs182bn grants, with major chunk for IPPs
• Amid heating up of political climate, the government on November 15, 2021 approved Rs10 billion supplementary grants for Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme (SAP) for utilisation on the recommendations of ruling party parliamentarians.
• A formal decision to this effect was taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, which also approved about Rs182bn worth of six other supplementary grants, including Rs135bn to independent power producers (IPPs)
3. EU finalises sanctions against Belarus
• The European Union will slap sanctions on Belarus over the migrant crisis in the `coming days`, after the bloc`s foreign ministers gave their backing, Brussels` top diplomat Josep Borrell said on November 15, 2021.
• After meeting the ministers, Borrell said the new sanctions would hit `quite an important number` of individuals and entities for `facilitating illegal border crossings into the EU`.
• `By expanding the scope of the sanctions we will be able to target those responsible for exploiting vulnerable migrants,` Borrell said
4. Air pollution in Europe still killing 300,000 a year: study
• Premature deaths caused by fine particle air pollution have fallen 10 percent annually across Europe, but the invisible killer still accounts for 307,000 premature deaths a year, the European Environment Agency said on November 15, 2021.
• If the latest air quality guidelines from the World Health Organisation were followed by EU members, the latest number of fatalities recorded in 2019 could be cut in half, according to an EEA report.
• Deaths linked to fine particular matter with a diameter below 2.5 micrometres or PM2.5 were estimated at 346,000 for 2018
5. India`s SC orders `work from home` over pollution in capital
• India`s Supreme Court told authorities on November 15, 2021 to shut offices in the capital and nearby cities, allowing millions to work from home as officials seek ways to reduce hazardous air pollution that led to the closure of schools.
• Its action came after city authorities in New Delhi, which has been battling a toxic haze since early November, took emergency measures on Saturday, ordering the closure of schools and building work for four days. `We direct the centre and states of the national capital region to impose work from home for the meantime,` said Chief Justice N. V. Ramana, head of a panel of three judges considering a petition by a city resident
6. Anti-corruption party wins election in Bulgaria
• A new centrist anti-corruption party appears to be the winner of Bulgaria`s parliamentary election, the country`s central electoral commission said on November 15, 2021.
• With nearly 76pc of the ballots counted, results showed that the We Continue the Change party, founded a few weeks ago by two Harvard graduates, has captured 25.3pc of the vote, edging out the opposition center-right GERB party of former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov by nearly 3pc.

7. US journalist detained in Myanmar pardoned and released
• A US journalist imprisoned in Myanmar since May was pardoned and deported on November 15, 2021, a day before he was due to face terror and sedition charges that could have jailed him for life.
• The military has squeezed the press since taking power in a February coup, arresting dozens of journalists critical of its crackdown on dissent, which has killed more than 1,200 people according to a local monitoring group.
• Danny Fenster had been working at local outlet Frontier Myanmar for around a year and was arrested as he headed home to see his family in May
8. Babar named captain of ICC World Cup team
• Three players from champions Australia made the International Cricket Council`s team of the Twenty20 World Cup with Pakistan captain Babar Azam chosen to lead the side, the world governing body said on November 15, 2021.
• Australia defeated New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday to finally win a maiden T20 World Cup and have the most players in the team picked by a selection panel of commentators, former international players and journalists.
• Opening batter David Warner, who was adjudged player-of-the-tournament, fast bowler Josh Hazlewood and leg-spinner Adam Zampa made the side
9. Pakistan`s participation in Jr Hockey World Cup in India confirmed
• Pakistan`s participation in the Junior Hockey World Cup was confirmed on November 15, 2021 after the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) said it received 80 per cent visas of its squad issued by the Indian High Commission.
• PHP secretary Asif Bajwa confirmed that 80 per cent visas of the Pakistan squad had been received on Monday, adding the remaining visas would be received by Tuesday.
• `Chief selector Manzoor Junior will announce an 18-member squad for the World Cup the same day [Tuesday]
10. Imam, Bilal return for Bangladesh Tests; Dahani, Haris axed
• Untested fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani along with Imran Butt and Haris Rauf were excluded to include opener Imam-ul-Haq, middle order batter Kamran Ghulam and off spinner Bilal Asif as the national selection committee on Monday announced the Pakistan Test squad for the two-match series in Bangladesh starting later this month.
• The first Test will be held in Chittagong from Nov 26 to 30 and the second in Dhaka from Dec 4 to 8.
• The 23-year-old Dahani caught the eyes of the selectors and was included in the two-Test series against the West Indies at Kingston last August but was not given any chance.
