1. Cabinet approves 28.8pc job quota for south Punjab
• The Punjab cabinet gave its nod to reserving 28.8 per cent job quota for the population of three divisions of south Punjab through an amendment in the Punjab Civil Servants Act 1974.
• The Punjab government had earlier allocated around 35pc job quote for the candidates having domicile of any south Punjab district, but it was challenged in the Lahore High Court.
• Eventually, a cabinet committee on functionality of south Punjab, headed by finance minister, was empowered to finalise job quota for the candidates from the region on the basis of population.
• The committee decided to allocate 28.8pc job quota for south Punjab candidates and it was approved by the cabinet
2. Rs3.8tr collected in July-February
• The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected Rs3.79 trillion in the first eight months of the current fiscal year (8MFY22), exceeding the target of Rs3.53tr by Rs268 billion, provisional data compiled by the tax body showed.
• Compared with the revenue collection of Rs2.92tr in 2020-21, 31 per cent growth was posted in July February FY22. The historic growth will provide a cushion to Prime Minister Imran Khan for subsidising petroleum prices, reduce electricity prices and offer incentives in taxation to the IT sector and industries
3. Pakistan `won`t take sides` in UN debate on Ukraine
• Pakistan has decided not to participate in the emergency session of the UN General Assembly that began to discuss the Ukrainian crisis.
• `Pakistan has decided not to take sides on this issue,` a diplomatic source told Dawn. `Islamabad sup-ports a peaceful and negotiated settlement.
• Prime Minister Imran Khan, who visited Moscow on the day the invasion began, defended his decision on Monday, saying that he was there to discuss bilateral issues only.
• The General Assembly is expected to wind up its debate on Tuesday and by then representatives of more than 100 countries would have addressed the emergency session. The meeting will decide whether to support a US-sponsored resolution that demands Russia`s immediate withdrawal from Ukraine
4. AJK, GB phone network `bigger than rest of Pakistan`
• Almost entire Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan have telephone coverage, but the internet services are limited to 40 per cent areas of the region and that too is mainly the 3G network.
• According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Annual Report 2021, the tele density in the region increased by 8.3pc over the previous year 2019-20 to 95.4pc in AJK and GB which is much higher than that of mainland Pakistan.
• The PTA has said that the subscribers` growth rate has witnessed a fluctuating trend over the last five years, the average annual growth rate hovered at 12pc
5. Dozens killed as Russian artillery pounds Kharkiv
• Russian artillery bombarded residential districts of Ukraine`s second largest city Kharkiv, killing possibly dozens of people, Ukrainian officials said, as Moscow`s invading forces met stiff resistance from Ukrainians on a fifth day of conflict.
• The attacks took place while Russian and Ukrainian officials met on the Belarusian border to discuss a ceasefire. The talks ended with no breakthrough.
• Russia also faced deepening isolation and economic turmoil as western nations, united in condemnation of its assault, hit it with an array of sanctions that created ripple effects around the world. Global shares slid and oil prices jumped
