1. Alarm in border areas after `heavy Indian firing`
Indian forces opened fire on Pakistani posts along the Working Boundary near Sialkot, military sources said on Thursday.
While there was no official word from Inter Services Public Relations the military`s media wing or local law enforcement, reports shared by locals on social media suggested that heavy and artillery fire was heard at several points along the border with India in the Zafarwal sector.
According to military sources, the firing began after a drone attempted to intrude into Pakistani territory, which was shot down by Pakistani forces
2. `Holding centres` to house illegal immigrants
As Pakistan ruled out an extension in the deadline for the forced repatriation of undocumented immigrants, mostly Afghan nationals, caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Thursday revealed foreign nationals residing in the country without identity documents would be kept at `holding centres` before deportation to their respective countries.
At a press conference held in the federal capital, the caretaker minister shared the details of a plan to expel refugees, saying instead of keeping them in prisons, the authorities would house them in detention centres set up in all provinces, including Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Islamabad. The interior minister said that provincial governments would bear the costs for such centres. He assured these undocumented immigrants, especially women, children and elderly, would be kept at these centres `with respect` and provided with meals and medical facilities
3. Anti-smog monitoring cell constituted
In a bid to monitor and control the factors causing smog, the Lahore division administration on Thursday constituted an antismog monitoring cell.
The cell will work under command of the additional commissioner (coordination) while the Lahore commissioner will supervise its performance
4. Pakistan reaffirms support for Kashmiris` right to self-determination
As the nation observes `Kashmir Black Day` today, marking the 76 years of Indian armed forces` illegal occupation in Kashmir, President Dr Arif Alvi and caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar have assured the Kashmiri people of Pakistan`s unwavering support for their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office spokesperson, at a weekly press briefing, said that the people of Kashmir have never accepted, nor will they ever accept, the illegal occupation of their land or India`s systematic campaign to suppress them through force, turning them into a disempowered minority in their homeland
5. KP unveils Rs529bn spending plan for next four months
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker government on Thursday unveiled Rs529.11 billion worth of spending plan for the next four months of the current fiscal (November-February) with the development outlay of Rs112.18 billion.
The cabinet approved the plan in a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohammad Azam Khan
