1. Pakistan, Russia to continue counter-terror cooperation
Pakistan and Russia have pledged to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key areas to effectively combat terror financing and terrorism.
During the 10th meeting of the ‘Pakistan-Russia Joint Working Group on Combating International Terrorism and Other Challenges to Security,’ both countries discussed global and regional terrorism threats, with a particular focus on situations in Afghanistan, Central and South Asia and North Africa
2. ADB okays $250m for power networks
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) on Friday announced that it had approved $250 million in loans to Pakistan for improving its power transmission network in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to ensure reliable electricity supply.
The project is aimed at helping the country achieve national grid stability, energy security, climate resilience and increased transmission capacity to deploy sufficient, reliable, clean, and cost-effective energy for sustainable economic growth
3. Five-year plan launched to boost banking
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a five-year strategic plan aimed at improving the banking sector, monetary policy and price control mechanism.
SBP Vision 2028 the first strategic initiative following amendments to the SBP Act was launched by Governor Jameel Ahmad at a ceremony here on Friday.
It highlights the central bank`s vision, mission and key goals to be pursued over the next five years
4. Ex-speaker, minister Gohar Ayub passes away
Gohar Ayub Khan, a former National Assembly speaker and son of former president General Ayub Khan, passed away in Islamabad on Friday, family sources confirmed.
Mr Khan, 93, was moved to Kulsum International Hospital after his pulse rate suddenly increased, but he couldn`t survive, according to family sources.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters
5. Five `toxic` cough syrups banned on WHO alert
The Punjab government has banned the production and sale of five `toxic` cough syrups in response to a World Health Organisation (WHO) alert, a development that marks the second major drug-related scandal in the province within just two months.
The implicated cough syrups, manufactured by a Lahore-based pharmaceutical company, were found to contain high alcohol levels. These syrups are Mucorid, Ulcofin, Alergo, Emidone Suspension and Zincell
