6. Pindi-Multan train service launched

• Pakistan Railways on Thursday launched Thal Express which will operate between Rawalpindi and Multan on public-private partnership.
• Divisional Superintendent Inamullah inaugurated the train along with the Imran Enterprises team. The Thal Express has the capacity to carry more than 700 passengers at a time with seven coaches for the economy class. It will reach Multan from Rawalpindi in 15 hours. The private company will manage the operation under outsource policy of the Pakistan Railways


7. Aziz Ugaili appointed Balochistan chief secretary

• Abdul Aziz Ugaili, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, has been appointed new chief secretary of Balochistan.
• According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Wednesday, Mr Ugalli will replace Mathar Niaz Rana.
• Mr Ugaili was working as additional secretary (incharge) at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives. He has served in diffident capacities in Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad. He has also worked in Pakistan`s missions abroad for eight years as trade commissioner in Australia, as community welfare attaché in Saudi Arabia, and as first secretary and commercial counsellor in Malaysia.


8. Putin claims victory in Mariupol

• Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed victory in the biggest battle of the Ukraine war on April 21, 2022, declaring the port of Mariupol `liberated` after nearly two months of siege, despite hundreds of defenders still holding out inside a giant steel works.
• In a televised meeting with his defence minister inside the Kremlin, Putin said there was no need for a final confrontation with the last defenders who were boxed in after surviving nearly two months of Russia`s siege.
• `I consider the proposed storming of the industrial zone unnecessary,` he told Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu in a televised meeting at the Kremlin. `I order you to cancel it


9. Biden unveils $800m in military aid for Ukraine

• US President Joe Biden pledged $800 million in more weaponry for Ukraine on April 21, 2022 and said he would ask Congress for more money to help bolster support for the Ukrainian military as it faces a fresh onslaught by Russia on its eastern flank.
• Addressing Americans from the White House`s Roosevelt Room, Biden pledged to send heavy artil1ery, dozens of howitzers, and 144,000 rounds of ammunition, as well as tactical drones, as he called on Congress for supplemental funding to provide additional aid for Kyiv.
• Biden also announced $500 million in direct economic assistance to the Ukrainian government as it battles to save the lives of people under siege by Russian forces


10. Johnson in India for hard sell on anti-Russia action

• UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in India on April 21, 2022 touting job-creating investment but facing long odds to get his reluctant counterpart Narendra Modi to back Western action against Russia.
• Johnson arrived in Gujarat-Modi`s home state and the ancestral home to half of the United Kingdom`s British Indians where he is meeting business leaders and taking a cultural tour of the historic Ahmedabad city.
• He will leave for New Delhi to meet his Indian counterpart on Friday, providing Johnson some respite from the `party gate` controversy over his criminal violation of pandemic lockdown rules
