6. PIA opens engineering hangar at IIA

• Nearly four years after the inauguration of Islamabad International Airport (IIA) by the then prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on May 1, 2018, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) inaugurated its first engineering hangar for aircraft maintenance at the airport.
• The hangar, named after Noor Khan, will be used for maintenance of the PIA aircraft.
• A PIA spokesman said that the planes will no longer need to be sent to Karachi airport for maintenance.
• Arshad Malik, the chief executive officer PIA, inaugurated the engineering hangar on Sunday


7. Top US officials to visit Kyiv

• The United States` top diplomat and defence chief were set to make their first war-time visits to Kyiv since Russia invaded Ukraine two months ago, with fierce fighting casting a long shadow over Orthodox Easter.
• The trip by Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin comes as the war enters its third month with thousands dead and millions displaced.
• Several European leaders have already travelled to Kyiv to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky and underscore their support, but the United States a leading donor of finance and weaponry had not sent any top officials so far


8. Israel says committed to status quo at Jerusalem site

• Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said on Sunday that Israel was `committed` to the status quo that prevents Jews praying at Jerusalem`s flashpoint Al Aqsa Mosque compound, the epicentre of repeated clashes.
• His comments follow violence in Israel and the Palestinian territories that has killed 38 people since late March, with tensions further fuelle d by the clashes in Jerusalem and consequent exchanges of fire between Israel and the Palestinian enclave of Gaza.
• `Muslims pray on the Temple Mount, non-Muslims only visit,` Lapid said, using the Jewish term for the Al Aqsa Mosque compound in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem


9. Macron defeats far-right Le Pen in French election: projections

• French President Emmanuel Macron was on course Sunday to win a second term by defeating far-right leader Marine Le Pen in presidential elections, projections showed.
• Macron was set to win 57.0-58.5 per cent of the vote compared with Le Pen on 41.5-43.0 per cent, according to projections by polling firms for French television channels based on a sample of the vote count.
• The result is narrower than their second-round clash in 2017, when the same two candidates met in the run-off and Macron polled over 66 percent of the vote


10. World Bank roadmap to mitigate Ukraine war impact on developing countries

• The World Bank Group (WBG) has devised a roadmap outlining a medium-term targeted approach encompassing 15 months till ending June 2023 to respond the crisis in the wake of war in Ukraine in the amount of $170 billion.
• This roadmap will support developing countries as they address the human and development setbacks caused by compounding crises impacts of the war, including food and fuel price shocks, and disruptions to trade, supply chains and foreign direct investment, Covid-19 pandemic and climate change.
• According to the document titled `Global Impacts of the War in Ukraine`, seen by Dawn, the WBG management will explore with its board of executive directors to put in place a 15-month crisis response envelope of around $170 billion for the period between April 2022 and June 2023
