• The federal government on December 16, 2022 appointed Akif Saeed as chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) replacing Amir Khan.
• Mr Khan was appointed commissioner and the chairman of SECP for another three-year term on Dec 6, 2021.
• Mr Saeed was appointed commissioner in SECP on Dec 13 along with Abdul Rehman Waraich and Mujtaba Lodhi.

9. SpaceX rocket sends first water survey mission into orbit

• A SpaceX rocket blasted off early on December 16, 2022 carrying a US-French satellite designed to conduct an unprecedented global survey of Earth`s surface waters, a mission expected to shed new light on the mechanics and consequences of climate change.
• The Falcon 9 booster, owned and operated by Elon Musk`s commercial rocket company, lit up the pre-dawn sky along California`s coast as it roared off its launch pad at the Vandenberg Space Force Base, 260 1(m northwest of Los Angeles.
• The liftoff, directed by NASA, was shown live on a space agency webcast.

10. Azhar Ali to retire from international cricket after Karachi Test

• There was a change in schedule on what was meant to be a regular pre-match day here at the National Stadium on Friday, on the eve of the third Test between Pakistan and England.
• Of all people, it was Azhar Ali who appeared at the day`s first press conference. The Pakistan Cricket Board`s media manager said the veteran needed to `make a statement`.
• It wasn`t hard to guess what was about to come from Azhar then. The long-serving Pakistan batter still gave a disclaimer
