6. Ecnec approves Rs448bn development projects

• The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) on Monday approved four development projects, mostly in Punjab province, involving an estimated cost of Rs448.36bn.
• Three of the four programmes worth Rs322bn to be executed in Punjab.
• The meeting of the Ecnec, presided over by Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, also approved the revised Greater Karachi Water Supply Project (K-IV) at a cost of Rs126.404bn


7. North Korea says it tested missile capable of striking Guam

• North Korea confirmed on Monday it test launched an intermediate range ballistic missile capable of reaching the US territory of Guam, the Norths most significant weapon launch in years, as Washington plans steps to show its commitment to its Asian allies.
• Sundays launch could be a prelude to bigger provocations by North Korea such as nuclear and long-range missile tests that pose a direct threat to the US mainland, as the North tries to further pressure the Biden administration to win sanction relief or international recognition as a legitimate nuclear state.
• The official Korean Central News Agency said the purpose of the test was verifying the overall accuracy of the Hwasong-12 missile that is being deployed in its military


8. Syrian defences take on Israeli missile barrage near capital

• Syrian air defences confronted Israeli missiles targeting an area near the capital, Damascus, downing some of them, Syria`s state news agency reported on Monday.
• SANA cited a military source as saying the missiles came from the skies over eastern Lebanon, and targeted outposts in the vicinity of Damascus, resulting in material losses. No other details were immediately available, and there was no comment from Israel on the attack which occurred shortly after 3am in Damascus. Israel carries out raids on Syria mostly overnight.
• An opposition war-monitoring group said the strikes targeted arms depots of Lebanon`s militant Hezbollah group in the eastern part of the Qalamoun mountains, northeast of Damascus. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes ignited fires but had no immediate word on any casualties.


9. UAE intercepts missile fired by Yemen`s Houthis during Israeli president`s visit

• The United Arab Emirates shot down a ballistic missile fired by Yemen`s Houthis during a visit by Israel`s president on Monday, the latest attack to rattle the Middle East financial hub.
• Nobody was hurt in the early-hours attack, the third in consecutive weeks on the wealthy Gulf nation that is part of the Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen`s Iran backed group.
• `Air defence forces intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi terrorist group at the UAE,` the defence ministry said, according to the official WAM news agency


10. Taliban killed 100 ex-Afghan govt officials, others: UN

• The Taliban and their allies have killed more than 100 security and civilian personnel linked to the former US-backed Afghan government since seizing power in August, according to a new United Nations report.
• The report, an advance copy of which was seen by AFP on Sunday, describes severe curtailing of human rights by Afghanistan`s fundamentalist new rulers.
• Taliban officials on Monday rejected the claims, insisting that the reported deaths were linked to `personal enmity` cases and were under investigation.
