6. Balochistan approves health card scheme

• The Balochistan cabinet on February 1, 2022 approved the launch of health card scheme, registration of peasants and providing them with Kissan card and starting recruitment on vacant posts on merit from grade three to 15 through departmental committees.
• The cabinet meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo.
• Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, along with Parliamentary Secretary on Information Bushra Rind, briefed the media about the cabinet`s decisions


7. UN, rights groups blame Taliban as two journalists go missing

• The Taliban have arrested two Afghan journalists working for a local news channel, rights groups and the United Nations said on February 1, 2022, weeks after two women activists went missing.
• Since seizing power in August, the hardline Islamists have cracked down on dissent by detaining critics and forcefully dispersing protests against their regime.
• Several Afghan journalists have also been beaten while covering rallies not approved by authorities.
• The Afghan Media Association a newly formed journalists` rights group said Ariana TV reporters Waris Hasrat and Aslam Hijab were picked up by the Taliban on Monday `and taken to an unknown location`.


8. Qatar reaches deal with Taliban to resume evacuations

• Qatar has reached an agreement with the Taliban to resume chartered evacuations out of Kabul airport, the Axios news website reported on Tuesday citing an interview with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
• The agreement was for two flights per week, chartered by Qatar Airways, and would allow the United States and other countries to evacuate thousands more of their citizens and at-risk Afghans, Axios said.
• The minister spoke to Axios on Monday in Washington, during an official visit with Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani


9. Amnesty terms Israel `apartheid` state

• Amnesty International on February 1, 2022 labelled Israel an `apartheid` state that treats Palestinians as `an inferior racial group`, joining the assessment of other rights groups which the Jewish state vehemently rejects.
• `Israel`s cruel policies of segregation, dispossession and exclusion across all territories under its control clearly amount to apartheid,` said Amnesty`s secretary general Agnes Callamard.
• `Whether they live in Gaza, east Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank, or Israel itself, Palestinians are treated as an inferior racial group and systematically deprived of their rights


10. Pakistan Super League Sultans survive Shadab onslaught to extend winning start

• A collaborative show of power-htiting between Tim David and Rilee Rossouw for Multan Sultans trumped Islamabad United skipper Shadab Khan`s sensational singlehanded effort at the National Stadium on February 1, 2022.
• It meant the holders extended their winning start in the HBL Pakistan Super League to four matches with the 20-run victory and left United rueing the fact that Shadab, who clobbered nine sixes and five fours in a 42-ball 91, didn`t get much support from his team-mates.
