• A ban on Islamic headscarves at schools has prompted an outcry among Muslims in southern India, with large crowds taking to the streets on February 7, 2022 to protest against the restrictions.
• The standoff in Karnataka state has galvanised fears among the minority community about what they say is increasing persecution under the Hindu nationalist government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
• Students at a government run high school were told not to wear hijabs last month, an edict that soon spread to at least two other educational institutions in the state


7. US adds 33 Chinese firms to red flag list

• The Biden administration is raising red flags about 33 Chinese companies whose legitimacy it cannot verify, imposing new restrictions on their ability to receive shipments from US exporters and requiring extra diligence from American companies that want to do business with them.
• The Commerce Department said on Monday that it was adding the companies to what is known as the Unverified List, a roster of businesses worldwide that are subjected to stricter export control because US officials have been unable to do customary checks.
• The ability to verify the legitimacy and reliability of foreign parties receiving US exports through the timely completion of end-use checks is a core principle of our export control system, Matthew Axelrod, the department`s assistant secretary for export enforcement, said in a statement


8. UAE delegation visits Israeli parliament, Jewish memorial

• Three members of the United Arab Emirates` Federal National Council visited Israel`s parliament on February 7, 2022, becoming the first Emirati delegation there since the US-brokered normalisation of ties in 2020.
• `When we talk about Abraham Accords agreements, we want you to look at the big picture,` Ali Rashid al-Nuaimi, chairman of the council`s defence, interior and foreign affairs committee, said at the Israeli foreign and defence committee.
• `It`s not a political agreement only, it`s not an issue related to security and defence issue. No, it is an agent of change for the whole region,` Nuaimi said, advocating `full engagement in all sectors`


9. Writer, politician Bushra Rehman passes away

• Fiction writer and former lawmaker Bushra Rehman passed away on February 7, 2022.
• Bushra Rehman was born in Bahawalpur in 1944. She did her MA Journalism from the Punjab University.
• She was elected to the Punjab Assembly on a reserved seat for women in 1985 and then the 1990 elections. She served as an MNA on a seat reserved for women in 2002 and 2008.


10. Pakistan Super League Roy runs riot as Gladiators return to winning ways

• After a woeful start to their HBL Pakistan Super League campaign, it was the Englishman`s brutal hitting that inspired the Gladiators to their second win in five matches, snapping a run of two losses, as they pulverized the Lahore Qalandars by seven wickets here at the National Stadium.
• Roy hit eight towering sixes and 11 boundaries in 116 off 57 deliveries, leaving the Qalandars scratching their heads. After all, they had posted 204 on the board after having been put in to bat. But Roy enabled the Gladiators to make short work of the total they had to chase.
• His intentions were clear when he danced down the ground to clear long-off for a six off Shaheen Shah Afridi`s on only the second ball of the innings.
