6. Ethiopia starts generating power from Nile dam today

• Ethiopia will start generating power from its mega-dam on the Blue Nile on Sunday, government officials told AFP, a major milestone for the controversial project.
• The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), set to be the largest hydroelectric scheme in Africa, has been at the centre of a regional dispute ever since Ethiopia broke ground there in 2011.
• `Tomorrow will be the first energy generation of the dam,` an Ethiopian government official said on Saturday.
• A second official confirmed the information. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because the development has not been officially announced


7. Epstein ally found dead in French prison

• Prominent French model agent Jean Luc Brunel, a close associate of disgraced US billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, has been found dead in his Paris prison cell, prosecutors said on February 19, 2022, in an echo of the jail suicide of his friend.
• Epstein, arrested in July 2019 on charges of trafficking underage girls for sex, was found hanged in his New York jail cell the following month awaiting trial over abuses against underage women.
• His former associate Brunel, in his mid-70s, had been charged with the rape of minors and held in prison since December 2020. He was briefly freed in late 2021 but then re-incarcerated on a Paris court of appeal ruling


8. Benin exhibits stolen treasures returned by France

• Benin President Patrice Talon on February 19, 2022 will inaugurate an exhibition of historic treasures returned by France last year, nearly 130 years after they were stolen by colonial forces.
• The 26 pieces, some considered sacred in Benin, will be displayed from Sunday in a 2,000-square-metre space in the presidential palace in Cotonou in a show entitled `Benin art yesterday and today`.
• The return of artefacts by France comes as calls grow in Africa for Western countries to hand back colonial spoils from their museums and private collections.
• Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany have all received requests from African countries to return lost treasures.

Their right-left combination produced an invaluable 101 runs for the fourth wicket in mere 10.2 overs as Lahore looked set to post a huge total


10. Faulkner quits PSL in a huff, PCB slaps ban

• In a disturbing development at an otherwise nearly trouble-free HBL Pakistan Super League Twenty20 tournament, Quetra Gladiators` fast bowler James Faulkner on February 19, 2022 quit the PSL, alleging organisers had failed to honour his contract, a claim the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) strongly negate d.
• The 31-year-old Australian player, who left Pakistan in the early hours of Saturday, claimed that the PCB lied to him during his stint at the league.
• `I apologise to the Pakistan cricket fans. But unfortunately Ive had to withdraw from the last 2 matches and leave the (PSL) due to the (PCB) not honouring my contractual agreement/payments,` a disgruntied Faulkner wrote on Twitter. `Ive been here the whole duration and they have continued to lie to me
