1. Over 500 Pakistanis `on the move` after Russian attacks

• The Foreign Office claimed 81 Pakistanis have been moved out of Ukraine by the end of the second day of evacuations on Saturday. The 81 evacuees included 21 family members of the embassy staff.
• Previously, 35 students had been transferred to Poland by Friday night.
• Meanwhile, another 510 Pakistani nationals in Ukraine are on their way to the borders with Poland, Hungary and Romania from where they would be shifted out.
• The FO and the country`s mission in Ukraine highlighted their efforts for evacuation of the stranded Pakistanis and uploaded on social media recorded clips of the evacuees appreciating them


2. Terrorist killed in North Waziristan: ISPR

• One terrorist was killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Spinwam area of North Waziristan tribal district on February 25, 2022, the military said in a statement.
• According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted following reports about the presence of terrorists in the area. The terrorist died during a gun battle with security forces.
• Weapons and ammunition were recovered. The ISPR said that the deceased was involved in terrorist activities against the security forces.
• Area people appreciated the operation and expressed their support to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the area, the statement said.


3. WHO acknowledges Pakistan`s efforts to eradicate polio

• Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr Palitha Mahipala on February 25, 2022 acknowledged Pakistan`s efforts to eradicate polio in the country.
• Talking to media persons after inaugurating the four-day polio vaccination drive at Cantonment General Hospital (CGH), he said: `Effective measures had been taken in Pakistan to eradicate the polio and due to this, not a single polio case has been reported in Pakistan last year.
• The anti-polio drive will formally be launched from Monday (Feb 28).

4. Russia makes fresh push for Kyiv

• Troops closed in on Ukraine`s capital when Russian units resumed their offensive from all directions, after the Friday pause in anticipation of talks offered by Ukraine leadership.
• However, Russia claimed on Saturday that Kyiv had refused to negotiate, while the latter vowed to continue fighting, claiming to have halted the Kremlin`s push to capture Kyiv and appealing to the West for help.
• `Since the Ukrainian side refused to negotiate, the advance of the Russian forces resumed this afternoon,` said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov while accusing Ukraine of prolonging the military conflict despite Friday`s pause to its invasion of the pro-Western country


5. India turns down US persuasion to vote against Russia

• India, a key ally in the US-led effort to contain China, has joined Beijing in abstaining from a UN Security Council (UNSC) vote demanding an immediate Russian withdrawal from Ukraine.
• Diplomatic observers in Washington see this as a clear indication that India would not strain its relations with an old ally, Russia, to please its new partner, the United States.
• On February 25, 2022, US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken announced that the United States will now raise this matter in the UN General Assembly, `where the nations of the world can, will, and should hold Russia accountable and stand united with Ukraine`
