6. Iraqi air strikes kill nine IS militants

• Iraqi air strikes killed nine suspected fighters of the militant Islamic State group, including four Lebanese, in retaliation for an IS attack on Iraqi army barracks earlier this month, officials said on January 30, 2022.
• IS gunmen in Iraq broke into a barracks in the mountainous al-Azim district outside the town of Baqouba on Jan 21, killed a guard and shot dead 11 soldiers as they slept.
• It was one of the boldest attacks by the militants in recent weeks and came amid an uptick in violence that stoked fears the group has been re-energised

8. Forces aided by French army kill 60 `terrorists` in Burkina Faso

• Nearly 60 `terrorists` have been killed in Burkina Faso by local forces assisted by French forces deployed in the country, France`s military said on January 30, 2022, as a bloody insurgency rages.
• `On four occasions between January 16 and January 23, 2022, groups of terrorists were located, identified and neutralised by Burkinabe forces and by (foreign) units… in total nearly 60 terrorists were taken out,` the French military said in a statement.
• Burkina Faso has been struggling with jihadist attacks since 2015, when militants linked to Al Qaeda and the militant Islamic State group began mounting cross-border raids from Mali.

9. 2,000 children recruited by Yemen`s rebels died fighting: UN

• UN experts said in a new report that nearly 2,000 children recruited by Yemen`s Houthi rebels died on the battlefield between January 2020 and May 2021, and the Iranian-backed rebels continue to hold camps and courses encouraging youngsters to fight.
• In the report to the UN Security Council circulated, the experts said they investigated some summer camps in schools and a mosque where the Houthis disseminated their ideology and sought to recruit children fight in the seven-year war with Yemen`s internationally recognised government, which is backed by a Saudi-led coalition

• Nadal was broken when serving for the championship for the first time at 5-4 in the fifth set, but he made no mistake two games later by serving an ace to earn three championship points and converted it on the first attempt.
• The 35-year-old Spaniard now has one more major title than Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, his long-time rivals in the so-called `Big Three` With the 2-6, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 win, Nadal also became just the fourth man in history to win all four of the sports major titles at least twice
