1. Pakistan facilitator not guarantor of Afghan peace process

• Pakistan Army’s chief spokesperson Major General Babar Iftikhar July 10, 2021 said the Afghan Peace Process has many aspects where it should be understood that Pakistan was only a facilitator and not a guarantor in the process.
• In an exclusive interview with ARY NEWS Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the main stay of resolution to the matter was on different factions of Afghans who would have to decide the future course of the issue.
• The state-run news agency also released details of the interview to the media late Saturday. Major General Babar said the peace process was at a critical stage as far as Pakistan was concerned it took efforts to take peace process sincerely with core vision of Afghan led and Afghan owned peace process.
• “In past 20 years, US Army trained Afghan National Army that has strength, capability and its own Air force with presence on ground,” adding, the Afghan National Army was trained, equipped and had special and air forces. Major General Babar Iftikhar said, “Trillions of dollars have been spent on them and as a professional soldier I believe that they should be able to fight this onslaught as a professional force.”


2. EU, UNICEF to launch `Balochistan Education Support` programme

• The European Union and the United Nations International Children`s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) have signed an agreement to launch the `Balochistan Education Support` (BES), a five-year education development programme for which the EU will provide 17.4 million euros (Rs3.27 billion).
• The programme aims to support the Balochistan government to build high quality performance and management education systems in the province. It will contribute to the overall objective of improving literacy, numeracy, skills and qualifications for the people in the province, it was announced on Saturday.
• It will do so through improving access to quality primary and middle-level education and by increasing accountability, reportingand transparency of the Secondary Education Department


3. UN estimates Pakistan`s population at 225.2 million

• As the World Population Day is being observed on July 11, the United Nations (UN) has estimated Pakistan`s population at 225.2 million, making it the fifth most populous country.
• Data show that 61 per cent of the population is in the age bracket of 15 to 64 years; 34.6pc aged up to 14 years; 29.7pc 10 to 24 years while people aged 65 and above are estimated to be 4.4pc.
• Life expectancy at birth is 67 years for males and 69 years for females while the population is growing at the average annual rate of 2pc. The country has limited resources and the increasing population is putting more pressure on these resources


4. Wikicampers ranks KKH among world’s 15 most beautiful roads

• Already famed for its civil engineering marvel, the Karakoram Highway has now been ranked among the 15 most beautiful roads of the world for its scenic beauty.
• In its categorisation, Wikicampers, a website providing tourist services in different parts of the world, called the KKH an “ideal setting for a most dizzying road trip!”
• “Let’s gain altitude again by taking the second highest asphalt road in the world,” the website said explaining the features of the road.
• The KKH connects China to Pakistan while crossing the Karakoram mountain range and running alongside certain peaks over 7,000 meters in height


5. Pak, Indian FMs to face each other at SCO FMs council in Dushanbe

• Pakistani and Indian foreign ministers would face each other at the meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers being held in Tajik capital Dushanbe on July 13 and 14.
• Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi would lead Pakistani delegation in the conference, where he may face his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar who is also attending the conference.
• Diplomatic sources told The Nation that the SCO contact group on Afghanistan is the most important event which would discuss the current security situation of Afghanistan and would evolve a strategy for the future of Afghanistan. A joint communiqué would also be issued by the SCO contact group on Afghanistan


6. Youngest Pakistani on Everest now headed to K2

• The country`s youngest mountaineer to summit the world`s highest mountain, Mount Everest, is now on his way to the second highest peak, K2.
• On July 10, 2021, Shehroze Kashif, 19, set off from Skardu for Askole from where he is scheduled to reach the K2 base camp site after around a five-day trek.
• `This is a 30-day expedition to one of the most difficult mountains in the world that I`m undertaking now.
• Pm the only Pakistani in this group of around five people going on this journey with Summit Karakoram and a Nepalese organiser. God willing, on being successful Pll become the youngest climber in the world to summit K2,` shared a pumped Shehroze with Dawn over the phone from Skardu


7. Haiti asks US, UN to send troops as fears of instability grow

• Haiti has asked Washington and the UN for troops to secure its ports, airport and other strategic sites after the assassination of president Jovenel Moise opened a power vacuum in the crisis-hit Caribbean nation, an official said on July 10, 2021.
• The United States has already said it will send FBI and other agents to Port-au-Prince, two days after Moise was shot dead in his home.
• In the wake of the slaying `we thought that mercenaries could destroy some infrastructure to create chaos … During a conversation with the US secretary of state and the UN we made this request,` elections minister Mathias Pierre said


8. G20 ministers endorse global tax reform

• G20 finance ministers on July 10, 2021 gave their backing to a `historic` global deal to tax multinational companies more fairly and urged holdout countries to sign up.
• A framework for international tax reform, including a minimum corporate rate of 15pc, was agreed this month by 131 countries.
• But the endorsement by the 19 biggest economies plus the European Union will help ensure it becomes a reality following years of negotiations


9. England beat Pakistan to wrap up ODI series

• England`s second-string side beat Pakistan by 52 runs in the second One-Day International at Lord`s on Saturday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
• Chasing 248 for victory in a match reduced to 47 overs a side after rain delayed the start, Pakistan were bowled out for 195 in 41 overs after all five England bowlers picked up wickets.
• Pakistan failed to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals, with their top four batsmen combining for only 35 runs


10. Barty ends Australia`s long wait for crown at Wimbledon

• World number one Ash Barty became the first Australian woman to win the Wimbledon singles title for 41 years on Saturday when she defeated Czech Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 in the final.
• Barty, who won her maiden Grand Slam at Roland Garros in 2019, emulated her idol Evonne Goolagong who claimed the second of her All England Club titles in 1980.
• `I hope I made Evonne proud, Barty said on court after the trophy presentation. `This is incredible
