1. Five soldiers martyred, five others injured in two attacks

• Five soldiers were martyred and another five sustained injuries in two attacks late on June 30, 2021 night. One of the attacks was carried out by terrorists based in Afghanistan.
• Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Wednesday that terrorists from inside Afghanistan opened fire on a military post in the Dwatoi area of North Waziristan tribal district.
• Troops responded in a befitting manner and during the exchange of fire two soldiers Havaldar Saleem, 43, and Lance Naik Pervaiz, 35 embraced martyrdom


2. KP govt extends public health emergency for three more months

• As coronavirus cases and mortalities due to the pandemic continue to decline, Khyber Teaching Hospital has started vaccination of patients` attendants as part of the health department`s plan to boost up inoculation and ensure safety of people.
• The government has also extended public health emergency for three more months, according to a notification issued by health department.
• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has been recording less than 100 cases and five mortalities from the infection for the past one week, has focused on vaccination of people and is employing different methods to scale up awareness regarding Covid-19 jabs and safeguard them against the infection


3. Small farmers in Sindh to get Rs3bn subsidy via Peoples Hari Cards

• The Sindh government on June 30, 2021 announced a Rs3 billion subsidy for small farmers in the province during the financial year 2021-22.
• Speaking at a press conference at the Sindh Assembly building, Agriculture Minister Mohammad Ismail Rahu said that the subsidy would be provided to peasants on fertiliser through issuing them a `Peoples Hari Card`.
• He said the provincial government would also establish 16 cold storage facilities during that period with the support of growers, adding that the government would bear 80 per cent cost while remaining 20pc expenses would be met by the growers.


4. China provides over 200 mobile oxygen concentrators

• As the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has expressed fears that Covid-19 cases may rise during Eid ul Azha holidays, China on June 30, 2021 handed over 200 mobile oxygen concentrators to Pakistan.
• The oxygen concentrators were handed over to chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Akhtar Nawaz by China`s Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong at a ceremony.
• The ceremony was attended by officials of the Chinese embassy, ministries of National Health Services and Foreign Affairs and NDMA


5. WHO certifies China malaria-free

• China was certified as malaria-free on June 30, 2021 by the World Health Organisation, following a 70-year effort to eradicate the mosquito-borne disease.
• The country reported 30 million cases of the infectious disease annually in the 1940s but has now gone four consecutive years without an indigenous case.
• `We congratulate the people of China on ridding the country of malaria,` said WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus


6. Rapid developments may undermine Pakistan influence in Afghanistan: report

• The fast-paced withdrawal of foreign troops, stalled peace talks and rising violence in Afghanistan can undermine Pakistan`s efforts to facilitate the Taliban`s alleged return to Kabul through power-sharing arrangements, says an international report released on June 30, 2021.
• The report `Pakistan: Shoring Up Afghanistan`s Peace Process` was compiled by the International Crisis Group, a think tank with offices in Washington and Brussels and regional offices across the globe.
• `Should the Afghan peace process continue to sputter or altogether fail, Islamabad`s relations with Kabul and Washington would sour,` the report warns.


7. Most European troops exit Afghanistan quietly

• Most European troops have already pulled out of Afghanistan, quietly withdrawing months before the US-led mission was officially expected to end part of an anticlimactic close to the forever war that risks leaving the country on the brink of civil war.
• Germany and Italy declared their missions in Afghanistan over on Wednesday and Poland`s last troops returned home, bringing their deployments to a low-key end nearly 20 years after the first Western soldiers were deployed there


8. Many die as mercury crosses 49°C in Canada

• Millions of people in western Canada and northwestern United States were under heat alerts on June 30m 2021 as the region baked in record-breaking temperatures and police reported scores of deaths likely linked to the scorching conditions.
• The heatwave has stretched emergency services, with at least 134 people dying suddenly since Friday in the Vancouver area, according to Canadian police.
• In the northwest US city of Seattle, doctors reported a flood of heatstroke victims, and at least two patients aged 65 and 68 died of hyperthermia as their bodies overheated, according to the Seattle Times


9. Maulana Iskander of Binnori Town passes away

• Dr Maulana Abdul Razzaq lskander, a prominent religious scholar and long-time head (chancellor) of the famous seminary of Karachi, Jamiatul Ulumul Islamiyah, Binnori Town, near Gurumandir, passed away on June 30, 2021 after protracted illness, his followers and family members said. He was 86.
• They said that the senior hadith professor was on wheelchair since last one and a half years.
• He lately suffered from breathing problems and was admitted to the Indus Hospital where he was on a ventilator for the last one week, but could not survive. He is survived by two sons.


10. Former US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld dies at 88

• Former US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld, whose reputation as a skilled bureaucrat and visionary of a modern military, was unraveled by the long and costly Iraq invasion, died on June 29, 2021. He was 88.
• In a statement on Wednesday, Rumsfeld`s family said he was surrounded by family in his beloved Taos, New Mexico.
• Regarded by former colleagues as equally smart and combative, patriotic and politically cunning, Rumsfeld had a storied career in government under four presidents and nearly a quarter century in corporate America
