6. MoU signed to boost border trade with Iran

• Pakistan and Iran on June 1, 2022 signed a 32-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost bilateral trade and provide more facilities to people involved in the border trade and other business activities.
• The MoU was signed at the conclusion of a two-day meeting of the Pak-Iran Joint Border Trade Committee in Zahidan, the capital of Iran`s border province of Sistan and Balochistan.
• The Chief Collector of Customs, Balochistan, Mohammad Sadiq, and the General Manager of Industry, Mines and Trade Organisation of Iran`s Sistan and Balochistan province, Eraj Hassanpur, signed the MoU

7. International police bust `FluBot` phone scam

• Police in 11 countries have taken down a mobile phone scam dubbed FluBot that spread around the world via fake text messages, Dutch and EU police said on June 1, 2022.
• Dutch cybercops led an operation in May targeting the malware, which infects Android phones using texts which pretend to be from a parcel firm or which say a person has a voicemail waiting.
• Hackers would then steal bank details from infected phones, which automatically sent messages to other mobiles in the user`s contact list, passing on the scam like a flu virus.
• `To date, we have disconnected ten thousand victims from the FluBot network and prevented over 6.5 million spam text messages,` Dutch police said in a statement

8. Ukraine pins hopes on US weapons as Russians poised to take key city

• Ukraine looked close to losing the key eastern city of Severodonetsk to Russian forces but was boosted on Wednesday by the US decision to send more advanced rocket systems to help with its defence.
• `The Russians control 70 percent of Severodonetsk,` Lugansk region governor Sergiy Gaiday announced on Telegram, adding that Ukrainian forces were withdrawing to prepared positions.
• `If in two or three days, the Russians take control of Severodonetsk, they will install artillery and mortars and will bombard more intensely Lysychansk,` the city across the river, which Gaiday said remained under Kyiv`s control

9. China conducts `readiness patrol` around Taiwan

• The Chinese military said on June 1, 2022 it had conducted a combat `readiness patrol` in the seas and airspace around Taiwan in recent days, saying it was a necessary action to respond to `collusion` between Washington and Taipei.
• China, which claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory, has stepped up its military manoeuvres around the island over the past two years or so, as It seeks top ressure Taipei to accept its sovereignty claims.
• China has been particularly unhappy with US support for Taiwan

10. Actor Fawad made UNDP ambassador

• The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan appointed acclaimed actor Fawad Khan as its `National Goodwill Ambassador` at a ceremony in Islamabad on June 1, 2022.
• UNDP`s goodwill ambassadors are inspirational individuals who serve as spokespersons to uphold the UN Charter and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
• UNDP Pakistan resident represent a-tive Knut Ostby, other officials and UNDP`s young beneficiaries working as green social entrepreneurs were part of the ceremony.
• Fawad Khan signed the formal document with Ostby, and this was followed by the screening of a climate action advocacy film titled `Don`t Choose Extinction`
