6. Biden invites Pakistan envoy for `official photo

• Ambassador Masood Khan, Islamabad`s representative in Washington, meets US President Joe Biden on June 13, 2022 evening, an appointment that will formalise his position as Pakistan`s envoy to the United States.
• Ambassador Khan was sent to Washington on March 25, when the PTI government was still in power, but after Imran Khan`s ouster on April 11, there was speculation that the change in Islamabad would also impact diplomatic appointments.
• But Pakistan`s envoy to the United Nations, Ambassador Munir Akram, later explained that incumbent ambassadors continue to represent the country in foreign capitals unless specifically asked by the new government to return home.

7. UN rights chief Bachelet declines second term

• UN rights chief Michelle Bachelet said on June 13, 2022 she will not seek a second term, ending months of speculation, insisting she wanted to spend more time with her family in Chile.
• The surprise announcement came as the 70-year-old former Chilean president opened the United Nations Human Rights Council`s 50th session.
• `As my term as High Commissioner draws to a close, this Council`s milestone 50th session will be the last which I brief,` Bachelet told the diplomats gathered in Geneva


8. Ukrainian forces pushed back from key city`s industrial centre

• Ukraine said on June 13, 2022 its forces had been pushed back from the centre of key industrial city Severodonetsk, where President Volodymyr Zelensky described a fight for `literally every metre`.
• The cities of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk, which are separated by a river, have been targeted for weeks as the last areas still under Ukrainian control in the eastern Lugansk region.
• Regional governor Sergiy Gaiday said Russian forces were `gathering more and more equipment` to `encircle` Severodonetsk. Moscow`s troops had `pushed our units from the centre and continue to destroy our city` he said


9. Saudi Arabia adopts online registration for Haj to combat scams

• Saudi Arabia has required would-be Haj pilgrims from many Western countries to apply for visas via a government portal online, a move intended to crack down on `fake` travel agencies, officials said on June 13, 2022.
• The new system was put in place as the kingdom prepares to welcome 850,000 Muslims from abroad for the annual Haj after two years during which pilgrims not already in Saudi Arabia were barred because of Covid pandemic restrictions.
• It applies to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia, said one of the officials


10. Tuba becomes first Pakistani cricketer to win ICC Women`s Player of the Month award

• Spin sensation Tuba Hassan was voted the ICC`s Women`s Player of the Month for May on June 13, 2022, becoming the first player from Pakistan to win the award.
• Tuba was awarded to honour after enjoying significant success with the ball during her debut international series.
• The 21-year-old leg spinner was instrumental in restricting scores set by opponents Sri Lanka in the three-game T20I series in Pakistan, where she captured the Player of the Series award, taking five wickets at an average of 8.8 and an economy rate of 3.66
