6. Multiple electricity buyers` market launched

• The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has formally launched the Competitive Trading Bilateral Contract Market (CTBCM)-a new model under which any of the bull( power consumers (one megawatt and above) may come out of the system of the power distribution companies (Discos) and procure electricity from the officially approved or designated power suppliers in the open market.
• The new arrangement also allows the Discos to buy electricity from the open market and supply it to their customers through their distribution system (11kV to 132kV), Dawn has learnt.
• `Since the CTBCM model/system is ready to deliver (with effect from May 31), it has now been launched formally


7. Biden signs new gun control bill into law

• US President Joe Biden on June 25, 2022 signed into law his country`s first gun-control bill in decades that seeks to prevent people with criminal records and mental problems from acquiring firearms.
• The bill now known as the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act 2022 passed the House of Representatives on Friday evening by 234 to 193 votes.
• The US Senate passed the bill late Thursday by a 65-33-vote and sent it to the House. As promised by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the House acted swiftly and sent it to the president on Friday evening for signing it into law. President Biden also acted promptly and put his signature on the bill early Saturday morning before leaving on a week-long trip to Europe


8. Taliban seek more aid for quake victims, pledge no interference

• As vital medical supplies reached hospitals on June 25, 2022 in quake-hit areas of Afghanistan, the country`s Taliban government appealed for more international aid and pledged on Saturday they would not interfere with international efforts to distribute aid to victims.
• The United Nations and several other countries have rushed aid to the affected areas, with more due to arrive over the coming days.
• The UN`s migration agency said it had begun distributing thousands of emergency shelters and hygiene kits in affected areas, whereas China`s foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin confirmed on Saturday that the Beijing would provide 50 million yuan ($7.5 million) in emergency humanitarian aid including tents, sheets, convertible beds to quake-hit Afghanistan. The first shipment of Chinese aid would reach Afghanistan on Monday by a charter flight


9. Russia`s army `fully occupies` Severodonetsk

• As Moscow seeks to gain full control over the east of Ukraine after capturing Severodonetsk, President Vladimir Putin in a TV broadcast before a meeting with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko announced that Russia would deliver missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads to Belarus in the coming months.
• `In the coming months, we will transfer to Belarus Iskander-M tactical missile systems, which can use ballistic or cruise missiles, in their conventional and nuclear versions, Putin said in a broadcast at the start of their meeting in Saint Petersburg.
• He also offered to upgrade Belarus` warplanes to make them capable of carrying nuclear weapons, amid soaring tensions with the West over Ukraine


10. Pakistan`s Shajar sets new 100m national record in Almaty

• Pakistan`s young athlete Shajar Abbas has set a new national record in 100-metres race at the 31st Qosanov Memorial International Athletics Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan on June 25, 2022.
• According to information received here, the 22-year-old Shajar performed impressively to complete the 100-metre heat in 10.38 seconds, breaking the Pakistan record of 10.42 seconds set by Afzal Baig at the 2005 Islamic Games staged in Makkah.
• The Sahiwal-based Shajar in the process qualified for the100-metre final round which was scheduled to be held later on Saturday
