1. Overstressed LNG chain is a safety hazard, says report

• Pakistan`s liquefied natural gas terminals are overstressed and LNG value chain is very fragile from all parameters against global standards and could f ace operational and safety risks, contrary to common perception in public discourse that terminals are under utilised.
• `Even with the low ratios of `re-gas to storage` and `LNG import capacity to storage`, the overall utilisation rate of LNG terminals across the globe is approximately 43 per cent.


2. Vaccination of people over 60 starts on 10th: minister

• Pakistan`s national positivity ratio has risen from 3.21 per cent to 4.57pc in one month as 1,780 new Covid-19 patients and 39 deaths were reported in a single day.
• The number of active cases in the country, which was around 17,000 last month, has now surpassed 18,000.
• On the other hand, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umer announced that vaccination of people over 60 years would start from March 10


3. SHO martyred in armed ambush

• A police officer was martyred in a suspected targeted attack in heavily guarded area of Katcheri, informed sources on March 7, 2021.
• They added that Inspector Mian Imran Abbas, who was posted as Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station (PS) Race Course, was attacked by two unknown miscreants riding a motorcycle near Gymkhana at Katcheri.


4. Shab-e-Mairaj to be observed on Thursday night with devotion

• Shab-e-Miraj-un-Nabi (SAW) would be observed across the country on Thursday night (March 11) with religious fervor, great respect and devotion.
• The word Meraj of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is derived from Arabic word Urooj, which means ‘height,’ or ‘ascension.’ It is celebrated on Rajab 27th in the Islamic calendar. During Meraj, the command for five daily prayers (Salat) was also given to the Holy Prophet (SAW)


5. British-Iranian woman ends five-year sentence, but not free yet

• A British-Iranian woman held in an Iranian prison for five years on widely refuted spying charges ended her sentence on Sunday, her lawyer said, although she faces a new trial and cannot yet return home to London.
• The twists and turns of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe`s years-long case have sparked international outrage and strained already fraught diplomatic ties between Britain and Iran.


6. B-52s again fly over Mideast in US military warning to Iran

• A pair of B-52 bombers flew over the Mideast on March 7, 2021, the latest such mission in the region aimed at warning Iran amid tensions between Washington and Tehran.
• The flight by the two heavy bombers came as a pro-Iran satellite channel based in Beirut broadcast Iranian military drone footage of an Israeli ship hit by a mysterious explosion only days earlier in the Mideast. While the channel sought to say Iran wasn`t involved, Israel has blamed Tehran for what it described as an attack on the vessel


7. Swiss voters narrowly back `burqa ban`

• Swiss voters on March 7, 2021 narrowly backed a ban on full f ace coverings in public places a decision hailed by supporters as a move against radical Islam, but branded sexist and racist by opponents.
• Official results showed that51.21 percent of voters, and a majority of federal Switzerland`s cantons, supported the proposal.
• Some 1,426,992 voters were in favour of the ban, while 1,359,621were against, on a 50.8 percent turnout


8. US proposes UN-led peace conference for Afghanistan

• US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has proposed a UN-led peace conference to form an `inclusive government` in Afghanistan with the Taliban.
• According to New York Times, Mr Blinken said in his proposal that the conference would aim to establish a three-month period of `reduction in violence` that would lead to a ceasefire.
• The proposal was made by Mr Blinken in a letter to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani


9. Ethiopia gears up for Covid vaccine drive as first doses arrive

• Ethiopia on March 7, 2021 received its first 2.2 million doses of vaccine against the coronavirus, and officials in Africa’s second most populous country said the first jabs would be administered in the coming days.
• The doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India, were allocated under the UN-led Covax initiative which is working to facilitate vaccine access for poorer countries. “After a long wait of uncertainty, hope has become a reality,” health minister Dr Lia Tadesse said at a ceremony Sunday morning at the airport in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.


10. Guptill leads NZ to T20 series win over Australia

• A century opening stand by Martin Guptill and Devon Conway saw New Zealand clinch their Twenty20 International series against Australia in Wellington on Sunday after the tourists f altered in the f ace of an experimental spin attack.
• Set a target of 143 for victory in the fifth and final match at the Sky Stadium, New Zealand claimed victory by seven wickets and took the series 3-2 with an emphatic 27 balls to spare.
