6. Russia plans asset seizure of companies shutting operations

• The Evropeisky mall in Moscow was once a symbol of a Russia integrated into the global consumer economy, with atriums named after cities like London, Paris and Rome.
• But now large parts of the seven story shopping centre have gone quiet after Western brands from Apple to Victorias Secret closed their Russian operations in the two weeks since the country invaded Ukraine.
• Hundreds of companies have similarly announced plans to curtail ties to Russia, with the pace accelerating over the past week as the deadly violence and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine worsens, and as Western governments ratchet up economic sanctions.


7. Europe concerned Russian demands may lead to collapse of Iran talks

• France, Britain and Germany warned Russia on March 12, 2022 that its demands to have its trade guaranteed with Iran risked the collapse of an almost-completed nuclear deal.
• Negotiators have reached the final stages of discussions to restore the so called JCPOA deal, which lifted sanctions on Iran in return for curbs on its nuclear programme.
• However, last Saturday Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov unexpectedly demanded sweeping guarantees that Russian trade with Iran would not be affected by sanctions imposed on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine


8. S. Arabia puts to death record 81 people in one day

• Saudi Arabia said on March 12, 2022 it executed a record 81 people in one day for a variety of terrorism-related offences, exceeding the total number it sentenced to death last year.
• All had been `found guilty of committing multiple heinous crimes`, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, saying they included convicts linked to the militant Islamic State (IS) group, or Al Qaeda, Yemen`s Houthi rebel forces or `other terrorist organisations`.
• Those executed had been plotting attacks in the kingdom -including killing of a large number of civilians and members of the security forces, the SPA statement read


9. Zaheer Abbas inducted into PCB Hall of Fame

• Pakistan batting great Zaheer Abbas was formally inducted into the Pakistan Cricket Boards Hall of Fame on March 12, 2022.
• The 74-year-old former batter received his commemorative cap and plaque from PCB chief executive Faisal Hasnain during the lunch break of the second Test between Pakistan and Australia at Karachi`s National Stadium.
• Zaheer is the third PCB Hall of Famer after Fazal Mahmood and Wasim Akram to be formally inducted, with the remaining five inductions to take place in due course


10. Khalid elected ASBC director

• President of the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) Khalid Mahmood has been elected on the board of directors of the Asian Boxing Confederation (ASBC) during an elective congress held in Amman, Jordan, it was officially announced on March 12, 2022.
• According to a press release issued by the PBF, Pichai Chunhavajira, the president of Thailand boxing association, has been elected as ASBC president
