1. Pakistan to receive 1 million more doses from China next week

• Pakistan will receive another batch of over a million COVID-19 vaccine doses from China next week.
• The Prime Minister’s Adviser on health Dr. Faisal Sultan said in a tweet that the country has placed orders for the purchase of Sinopharm and CanSino vaccines from China which will be received within a few days.
• According to latest statistics by the National Command and Operation Center, fifty-seven more deaths and 4767 new cases of Coronavirus were reported across the country during the last twenty four hours. The death toll due to Covid-19 pandemic has now mounted to 14,215 while 595,929 patients have fully recovered from the disease so far


2. Shab-e-Barat tonight

• Shab-e-Barat, the night of fortune, repentance and divine blessings for Muslims would be observed on March 28, 2021 – the night between day 14 and 15 of Sha’ban — the eighth month of the Islamic calendar, with the pledge to strictly follow Covid-19 guidelines and maintain social distance by avoiding large gatherings.
• Shab-e-Barat, considered to be the holiest night of the Islamic calendar, is devoted to pleading for forgiveness for the past year and good fortune for the coming year.
• Shab-e-Baraat, the night of praising Allah, is observed 15 days before the start of the Holy month of fasting Ramadan-ul-Mubarak


3. FM flies to Tajikistan today to attend Heart of Asia Conference

• Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will lead the Pakistan delegation at the 9th Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process Ministerial Conference being held tomorrow (March 30) in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
• The FM will fly to Tajikistan today (March 29). The Ministerial meeting will be preceded by Senior Officials Meeting to be held today (March 29). The theme of the Conference is “Strengthening Consensus for Peace and Development.”
• The HoA-IP meeting has gained more importance as it will bring FM Qureshi and his Indian counterpart J Shankar face-to-face. No meeting has been planned but it has not been ruled out by the either side amid improving ties between the nuclear-armed rivals


4. Chinese liquor company gets licence in Pakistan

• A Chinese company has got a licence in Pakistan to manufacture liquor here, according to sources. The company, Hui Coastal Brewery and Distillery Limited, was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) on April 30, 2020, with the Hub (Balochistan) address.
• The licence was issued by Excise, Taxation and Anti-Narcotics Department Balochistan. The company has been launched as a joint venture with Balochistan at the Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority
• With vast experience of manufacturing liquor in China, this will be the first Chinese company to establish its plant in Pakistan


5. Philippines deploys air force jet over Chinese ships

• A Philippine air force jet is conducting daily patrols over Chinese fishing vessels parked near a disputed reef, the defence chief said, as Beijing refuses to pull the ships out of the area.
• Around 220 boats were first spotted earlier this month at the boomerang-shaped Whitsun Reef around 320 kilometres west of Palawan Island, sparking a diplomatic row.
• Manila has ordered Beijing to recall the vessels, describing their presence as an incursion into its sovereign territory. But China, which claims almost the entirety of the South China Sea, says the flotilla is made up of fishing vessels sheltering from bad weather


6. Kuwait receives tonnes of national archives from Iraq

• Kuwait received on March 28, 2021 eight tonnes of documents and other items taken during the 1990 Iraq invasion led by Saddam Hussein, officials said.
• It is the third shipment that Kuwait has received since 2019, according to officials from both countries.
• Kuwait`s assistant foreign minister Nasser al-Hain welcomed the move, saying the shipment contained archives from Kuwait University, the information ministry and other institutions. `We look forward to more cooperation and, God willing, there will soon be additional steps to complete the handover,` he said during a ceremony marking the occasion in Kuwait City.


7. Maharashtra considers total lockdown as virus cases jump

• India`s richest state, Maharashtra, is considering imposing a strict lockdown this week after recording the highest one-day jump in coronavirus infections of any Indian state since last March, officials said on March 28, 2021.
• Maharashtra tightened travel restrictions and imposed night curfews as it reported 40,414 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, almost two-thirds of the national total, many of them in the densely-populated financial capital Mumbai


8. UN in talks with China for unrestricted Xinjiang visit

• The UN is in negotiations with Beijing for a visit `without restrictions` to Xinjiang to see how the Uighur minority is being treated, Secretary General Antonio Guterres said in an interview broadcast on March 28, 2021.
• ` A serious negotiation is at the present moment taking place between the Office of the (UN Human Rights) Commissioner and the Chinese authorities,` Guterres told Canada`s CBC television network.
• `I hope that they will reach an agreement soon` to allow a visit `without restrictions or limitations,` he added.
• Guterres said the Chinese had repeatedly affirmed to him `that they want that mission to take place


9. Al-Shabaab calls for attacks on US, French interests in Djibouti

• The leader of jihadist group Al-Shabaab has called for attacks on “American and French interests” in Djibouti, less than two weeks before the country’s presidential election.
• In a video released late March 27, 2021, Ahmed Diriye — also known as Ahmed Umar Abu Ubaidah — lashed out at Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh, who has been in power since 1999 and is set to win a fifth term in elections on April 9.
• The Islamist leader accused Guelleh of turning the Horn of Africa country “into a military base from where every war against the Muslims in East Africa is planned and executed”. “Make American and French interests in Djibouti the highest priority of your targets,” he told followers in the video


10. Turkmenistan holds senate polls

• Turkmenistan on March 28, 2021 held its first elections to a newly created senate but there were no opposition candidates in the central Asian country run by strongman ruler Gurbanguly Berdy mukhamedov
