1. Nationwide movement of goods transport allowed

• Amid rising cases of coronavirus with another death being reported from Lahore, Prime Minister Imran Khan has lifted the ban on goods transport movement and decided to allow opening of food-related industries to ensure adequate supply of essential items during the nationwide lockdown.
• The prime minister announced the decisions at a press conference after chairing a meeting of the National Coordination Committee.
• The death toll across the country increased to 10 on Friday after Punjab reported the death of a 70-year-old resident of Sheikhupura at Lahore`s Mayo Hospital.


2. Punjab orders grocery shops closure at 8pm

• The Punjab cabinet committee on coronavirus eradication on March 27, 2020 decided to close karyana shops, grocery and general stores at 8pm from March 28, 2020 (today) to minimise the chances of public interaction owing to the coronavirus spread threat.
• The karyana shops, grocery and general stores will remain open from 8am to 8pm on a daily basis.
• The cabinet committee meeting through a video-link was chaired by Chief Minister Usman Buzdar at his office on Friday that reviewed arrangements made for the treatment of coronavirus patients. The meeting also reviewed the pace of food supply chain in the province.


3. Sindh governor receives Chinese donation of 56,000 Covid-19 testing kits

• With the arrival of a second shipment of healthcare products and protective gear from China on March 27, 2020, Pakistan`s coronavirus testing capability will improve significantly as the donation from Beijing would lead to tests of more than five million people, officials and health experts said.
• A special Chinese plane brought the consignment to the cargo terminal of Karachi airport, where Sindh Governor Imran Ismail received the donation at a simple ceremony under the banner of Pakistan-China national flags.
• The Sindh governor, a statement said, thanked the Chinese government on behalf of the people of Pakistan, saying Beijing was proving itself to be a true friend of the nation in these testing times.


4. CM KP announces economic relief package

• Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan has announced an economic relief package for the impoverished.
• The labor class and underprivileged will be given an aid of Rs5000 every month for a period of three months.
• The relief package will cost an estimated Rs11.4 billion to the government. CM KP announced this package during a briefing on March 27, 2020.
• He said that this cash money would be distributed under the ‘Ehsaas program’. The CM said that data of 400,000 laborers was being gathered and around 1.9 million households would benefit from the package. He also announced tax cuts amounting Rs5 billion for the people


5. Pakistan to keep western, eastern borders closed for two weeks

• Pakistan has decided to keep its western and eastern borders completely closed for another two weeks to prevent further spread of coronavirus.
• Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Security Moeed Yusuf through a Twitter statement said that the National Coordination Committee (NCC) for COVID-19 that met on March 26 under the chair of PM has taken the decision of complete closure of borders for another fortnight.
• In his second consecutive tweet, he said that the NCC that met on Friday reaffirmed the government’s earlier decision to “keep incoming international air passenger traffic suspended till 4th April.” “We will open traffic gradually when we do re-open,” he added


6. China sends medical supplies to GB govt

• The medical supplies donated by the Chinese government to the Gilgit-Baltistan government to help contain coronavirus outbreak were received at the Khunjerab Top on March 27, 2020.
• According to the Chinese embassy in Pakistan, the Chinese authorities handed over the supplies to Pakistani officials.
• On request of the chief minister, the Xinjiang province governor had donated medical equipment to the GB government, including 200,000 ordinary masks, 2,000 N-95 masks, five ventilators and 2,000 testing kits


7. US places Pakistan on high-priority list for Covid-19 assistance

• The United States has placed Pakistan among the high-priority countries that will receive US assistance for curbing the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus, a senior American official said.
• Briefing journalists in Washington on the US response to this pandemic, Bonnie Glick, deputy administrator of the US Agency for International Development said Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Burma and Uzbekistan were also among these high priority states. The United States has set up a $274 million fund to help the international community in combating the outbreak of this deadly disease


8. US Space Force launches first mission

• The United States Space Force launched its first national security mission on March 26, 2020, sending an ultra-secure military communication satellite into orbit even as the coronavirus pandemic paralyses much of the country.
• The Lockheed Martin Advanced Extremely High Frequency (A EHF) satellite was launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida at 4:18pm aboard an Atlas V551 rocket.
• AEHF-6, as the satellite is called, is the sixth and final in the Lockheed Martin AEHF constellation.


9. Virus claims life of British-Pakistani in UK`s `first doctor death`

• The family of a respected British Pakistani general physician (GP) in Essex confirmed his death on March 27, 2020 in what was said to be the first coronavirus-related death of a doctor in the United Kingdom.
• He was tested for Covid19 but died in hospital before the outcome of the test was known.
• His daughter Dr Sarah Zaidi, who too is a GP, said he showed `textbook symptoms` of the virus. She told the BBC: `He was treated as a definitive case. There is little clinical doubt it is coronavirus, the test result is academic


10. World Theatre Day observed

• Pakistan observed the World Theatre Day on March 27.
• World Theatre Day is an international observance celebrated on 27 March. It was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute
