1. Biden close to finish line in White House race

• Democrat Joe Biden was on the brink of winning the White House on November 6, 2020 after taking the lead in the potentially decisive state of Pennsylvania but President Donald Trump showed no signs of being ready to concede and his campaign insisted the bitterly contested race is `not over`.
• Pennsylvania, and its 20 electoral votes, would be enough to vault the 77-year-old Biden past the magic number of 270 votes in the Electoral College, which determines the presidency.


2. Fine for not wearing mask among new NCOC guidelines

• In view of a surge in coronavirus cases during the second wave of the viral disease in the country, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on November 6, 2020 issued new guidelines banning indoor marriages, fixing Rs100 as fine for not wearing mask and allowing `work from home` for 50 per cent staff of public and private institutions.
• A senior official of the NCOC told Dawn that the provinces had been asked to implement the new guidelines under their own modus operandi.
• The decision was taken at a meeting of the NCOC attended by representatives of the Centre and the provinces


3. CPEC Central Asia conference to be held in Gwadar

• A three-day business conference on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Central Asia organised by Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) will be held in Gwadar from Nov 16 to 18; the conference has been organised to deliberate investment opportunities and trade ties with Central Asian countries.
• This was stated by RCCI President Mohammad Nasir Mirza said while addressing a press conference on November 6, 2020


4. Aspirin to be tested as potential Covid-19 drug in UK

• Painkiller aspirin will be evaluated as a possible treatment for Covid-19 in one of Britain`s biggest trials, which will assess whether it might reduce the risk of blood clots in people with the disease.
• The scientists behind the recovery trial, which is looking into a range of potential treatments for Covid-19, said it would include the drug, which is commonly used as a blood thinner.
• `There is a clear rationale for believing that it (aspirin) might be beneficial, and it is safe, inexpensive and widely available,` said Peter Horby, co-chief investigator of the trial.


5. India`s top general says faceoff with China could spark bigger conflict

• India`s top military commander said on Friday a tense border standoff with Chinese forces in the western Himalayas could spark a larger conflict, even as senior commanders from both sides met near the frontline for their eighth round of talks.
• Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat said the situation was tense at the Line of Actual Control, the de facto border, in eastern Ladakh, where thousands of Indian and Chinese troops are locked in a months-long confrontation.
• `We will not accept any shifting of the Line of Actual Control,` Rawat said in an online address.


6. UK’s first city-wide coronavirus testing kicks off

• Liverpool on November 6, 2020 began England’s first city-wide trial of coronavirus testing in an attempt to prevent hospitals becoming overwhelmed during the country’s second wave of the pandemic.
• All of the northwestern city’s 500,000 residents as well as people working there will be offered repeat tests, even if asymptomatic, under the pilot, which will initially run for two weeks.
• Liverpool last month became the first region to enter the most severe tier of regional lockdown as it battled a spike in cases, followed by the nearby city of Manchester. A month-long nationwide lockdown came into force on Thursday as cases began to spiral in all parts of England


7. Bangladesh opens first Islamic school for transgender persons

• Bangladesh opened its first Islamic school for transgender Muslims on November 6, 2020 with clerics calling it a first step towards integrating the discriminated minority into society.
• The madressah is one of a series of recent steps in Bangladesh to make life easier for the nation`s up to 1.5 million transgender people.
• The LGBT community faces widespread discrimination in the South Asian country, with a colonial-era law still in place that punishes gay sex by prison terms, though enforcement is rare.


8. New Zealand’s Ardern sworn in for second term

• New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was sworn in for a second term November 6, 2020, as final election results showed her landslide victory was even bigger than previously thought.
• The charismatic leader and her ministers made their oaths of office in English and Maori during a ceremony at Wellington’s Government House.


9. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket lights up Florida’s night sky

• The night sky lit up over Cape Canaveral, Florida as SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket took off carrying a US Space Force Global Positioning System (GPS) into orbit.
• The rocket launched at 6:24pm ET, marking the firm’s third GPS launch and its 20th mission for this year. The US Space Force device is joining 31 other satellites orbiting Earth more than 12,000 miles above the surface, which circle our planet twice a day


10. Jhang Hockey Stadium completed at cost of Rs100m

• Jhang Hockey Stadium, which was pending since long, has been completed at a cost of Rs100 million. This was stated by Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Rai Taimoor Khan Bhatti here on November 6, 2020.
• “The project of Jhang Hockey Stadium commenced in 2012 and our govt completed it on priority basis. The stadium is equipped with all modern facilities including astro-turf and floodlights and it will play an important role in further promotion of the national game in the country.” Taimoor said that the stadium will be inaugurated in near future.
