1. Pakistan sets aside $100m to buy Covid vaccine

• While an estimated cost of the Covid19 vaccine is not yet available, Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a $100 million allocation and allowed advance payment for procurement of the vaccine at the earliest.
• Moreover, it has been decided that different segments of society, such as senior citizens, health practitioners and people suffering from chronic diseases, will be prioritised for the vaccine that will be available in limited numbers during the ongoing winter season


2. Azad Kashmir going for lockdown from Nov 22

• The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on November 17, 2020 decided to reimpose complete lockdown across the territory for two weeks in the wake of alarming spike in Covid19 cases.
• The lockdown will come into effect from 12:01am on Sunday (Nov 22) until 12pm on December 6, almost on the previous pattern with the exception of permission to the public transport to operate with strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) decided the AJK cabinet, with Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider in the chair.


3. Pakistan reaffirms opposition to making India permanent member of UNSC

• Pakistan has reaffirmed its opposition to adding new permanent members in an enlarged UN Security Council, saying that one of the aspirants India does not even qualify for a seat on the 15-member body, citing New Delhi`s violations of its resolutions on Kashmir.
• Without naming India, which along with three other countries Brazil, Germany and Japan (known as G-4) has been campaigning for permanent membership of the Council, Ambassador Munir Akram told the UN General Assembly on Monday that New Delhi had waged 20 wars since 1947 and fomented terrorism and instability across South Asia, especially against Pakistan.


4. NA panel clears CPEC authority bill with majority vote

• Amid dissent by opposition members, a parliamentary committee on November 17, 2020 cleared with majority vote `The China Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2020`.
• A meeting of the National Assembly`s Standing Committee on Planning and Development, presided over by PTI MNA Junaid Akbar, took up the government bill which was blocked by the opposition members during the last meeting.
• At the outset of the meeting, the committee inquired from the Ministry of Planning and Development as to what salary package was being given to the present CPEC Authority (CPECA) chairman, retired Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa.


5. China hails Pak Navy’s efforts for Maritime security

• Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong on November 17, 2020 called on Naval Chief Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi at the Naval Headquarters here and discussed matters of mutual interest including regional security situation.
• The Chinese Ambassador commended Pakistan Navy’s efforts for maritime security in the region.


6. French `Jetman` killed in training accident in Dubai

• Frenchman Vince Reffet, part of the `Jetman` team which has performed groundbreaking stunts above Dubai using jetpacks and carbon-fibre wings, was killed in a training accident on November 17, 2020.
• The Jetmen have pulled off a series of dramatic flights over the Gulf city, soaring in tandem above the world`s tallest building Burj Khalifa and alongside an Emirates Airbus A380, the world`s largest commercial airliner


7. Biden names nine aides to key White House posts

• US President-elect Joe Biden announced on November 17, 2020 he has appointed nine close campaign aides to key White House positions as he fleshes out a diverse leader ship team less than a week after naming his chief of staff.
• `America faces great challenges, and they bring diverse perspectives and a shared commitment to tackling these challenges and emerging on the other side a stronger, more united nation, Biden said in a statement


8. UK committee publishes scathing report on Lord Nazir

• A day after British Pakistani Lord Nazir Ahmed tweeted that he has stepped down from his role in the UK House of Lords after 20 years of service, a report published by the Upper House revealed that a conduct committee recommended he be expelled after an inquiry into sexual misconduct.
• The decision marks the first time a peer has ever been recommended for expulsion


9. Karachi thrash Lahore, clinch PSL trophy

• Karachi Kings eventually halted their hunt for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) trophy when they outgunned arch-rivals Lahore Qalandars by five wickets at the National Stadium on November 17, 2020 night to crown themselves as the fifth edition`s champions.
• Babar Azam played a decisive role in guiding Karachi over the line with eight deliveries to spare as the Pakistan captain anchored a tricky chase of 135 with yet another masterly display


10. FIFA Club World Cup to be held in Qatar

• The FIFA Club World Cup, originally planned for December, will now be held from Feb. 1 to Feb. 11 in Doha, Qatar, organisers FIFA said on November 17, 2020.
• The tournament brings together the six continental champions from across the world, with European Champions League winners Bayern Munich the first to have qualified.
• Last season`s tournament ended with Liverpool beating Brazilian club Flamengo in the final
