6. Violence against women most pervasive rights violation: UN

• Violence against women remains the most widespread and pervasive human rights violation in the world, says a UN report released on November 25, 2022, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
• In his message on this special day, UN Secretary-General António Guterres reminded the international community `this discrimination, violence and abuse targeting half of humanity comes at a steep cost, every 11 minutes, a woman or girl is killed by an intimate partner or family member.
• The day kicks off 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, under the theme `Unite! Activism to end violence against women and girls`. The events that will be held across the globe would emphasise the findings of the latest UN report on women.
• According to this report, over one in three women experience gender-based violence during their lifetime. In 2021, nearly one in five women, aged 20-24, were married before turning 18


7. Azerbaijan says no talks with Armenia if Macron attends

• Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev said on November25, 2022 he would not meet the prime minister of Armenia, as planned in Brussels next month, because Yerevan demanded French leader Emmanuel Macron mediate.
• Azerbaijan accuses France of backing Armenia in the two countries` decades-long conflict over the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
• Aliyev said he would not meet Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Brussels on Dec 7 because the Armenian leader demanded that Macron attend the talks

8. France-Italy spat triggers EU crisis talks on migration

• European interior ministers gathered for crisis talks on November 25, 2022 as an ugly row between Paris and Rome over how to handle would be refugees forced EU migration reform back onto their agenda.
• New arrival numbers haven`t yet hit the levels of 2015 and 2016, but European capitals are concerned about new pressure on sea routes from North Africa and overland through the western Balkans.
• And now, with winter temperatures descending on eastern Europe and Ukrainian cities facing power cuts under Russian bombardment, the European Union is braced for many more war refugees


9. Tehran sends more troops to Kurdish region

• Iran`s Revolutionary Guards have built up their presence in restive Kurdish regions, state media reported on November 25, 2022 amid a crackdown on mass protests, as video showed demonstrations in minority Baluch areas of the southeast.
• The mass demonstrations that erupted after the Sept 16 death in custody of 22-year old Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini spread rapidly across the country, but have been most intense in areas populated by ethnic minorities, many of whom are Sunni.
• The unrest has posed one of the biggest challenges to Iran`s rulers since they came to power in 1979, with previous bouts of sustained protest eventually being crushed


10. UK foreign minister brings new aid to Kyiv

• UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly on a visit to Kyiv on November 25, 2022 announced new aid, including ambulances and support for victims of sexual violence by Russian soldiers, for Ukraine.
• After meeting President Volodymyr Zelensky, Cleverly tweeted: `President @ZelenskyyUa, the UK is supporting you with action not just words.
• `I made you that promise today. The UK intends to keep it,` he said, after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak used a visit last weekend to the Ukrainian capital to set out a new package of military aid worth $60 million
