6. Pro-China opposition wins vote as Tsai`s threat bet fails

• Taiwan`s President Tsai Ing-wen has stepped down as head of her ruling party after it suffered defeat in Saturday`s local elections, while the Beijing friendly main opposition held its ground.
• Voters cast ballots for mayors, magistrates and various other posts in 22 cities and counties in elections Tsai had previously described as a stage to showcase `Taiwan`s persistence and resolve to defend freedom and democracy` as Beijing ramps up pressure on the island.
• But her Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lost four out of the island`s six key mayoralties, including capital Taipei.
• `The election results were not as expected…. I should shoulder all the responsibility and I resign as DPP chairwoman immediately, Tsai, who will stay on as president of the self-ruled island, told reporters


7. Rockets target US patrol base in Syria: Centcom

• Two rockets targeted a US patrol base in northeastern Syria late Friday, the third such attack in nine days, US Central Command said.
• Centcom did not indicate who fired the rockets but said, in a statement, that they aimed at `coalition forces at the US patrol base in Al-Shaddadi, Syria`.
• The strike at about 10:30pm (1930 GMT) caused no injuries or damage to the base or coalition property, said Centcom, which covers the Middle East region

8. Taliban committing crimes against humanity, warn UN experts

• A panel of UN human rights experts has concluded that the Taliban regime`s treatment of Afghan women and girls can be described as crime against humanity and should be investigated as gender persecution.
• In a statement released by the UN headquarters in New York on November 26, 2022, eleven UN-appointed independent human rights experts noted that Afghanistan`s de facto Taliban rulers had deepened `flagrant violations` of basic rights of Afghan women and girls.
• `Already the most draconian globally,` such violations `may amount to gender persecution, a crime against humanity,` the observers warned

Poland, though, wasted no time in giving Saudi Arabia the chance to get back when Krystian Bielik brought down Saleh Al Shehri in the box. The referee had initially waved for play to continue but had a rethink after the VAR intervened. And as he pointed to the spot, the noise was back up.
