6. Ukraine sees signs Russia may leave occupied N-plant

• The head of Ukraine`s state-run nuclear energy firm said on November 27, 2022 there were signs that Russian forces might be preparing to leave the vast Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant which they seized in March soon after their invasion.
• Such a move would be a major battlefield change in the partially-occupied southeastern Zaporizhzhia region where the front line has hardly shifted for months.
• Repeated shelling around the plant has spurred fears of a nuclear catastrophe.
• `In recent weeks we are effectively receiving information that signs have appeared that they are possibly preparing to leave the (plant),` Petro Kotin, head of Energoatom, said on national television. `Firstly, there are a very large number of reports in Russian media that it would be worth vacating the (plant) and maybe worth handing control (of it) to the (International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA), he said, referring to the United Nations nuclear watchdog. `One gets the impression they`re packing their bags and stealing everything they can

• The government of Nicolas Maduro and the Venezuelan opposition broke a political stalemate on Saturday with a broad social accord, and the US government responded by allowing a major US oil company to resume operations in Venezuela.
• The accord heralded a potential easing of a grinding economic and political crisis in Venezuela.
• It paves the way for the United Nations to oversee a trust fund of frozen assets of the Maduro government to be used for a variety of social projects in the South American country, including programmes related to education, health, food security, flood response and electricity

8. Kim vows N. Korea to have world`s most powerful N-force

• North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said his country aimed to have the world`s most powerful nuclear force as he celebrated the launch of its newest intercontinental ballistic missile at a ceremony with his young daughter, state media reported on November 27, 2022.
• Kim also handed promotions to more than 100 officials and scientists for their work on the Hwasong-17 dubbed the `monster missile` by analysts and believed to be capable of reaching the US mainland just days after Pyongyang test-fired it in one of its most powerful launches yet.
• Hailing the new ICBM as `the world`s strongest strategic weapon` Kim said North Korean scientists had made a `wonderful leap forward in the development of the technology of mounting nuclear warheads on ballistic missiles`, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA)reported
