1. Lockdown in 35 dists extended till 15th

• The Punjab government has extended the lockdown in 35 districts of the province until Oct 15 while relaxing the restrictions in this regard for Rawalpindi for achieving the Covid vaccination target.
• Issuing a notification in this respect here on September 30, 2021, the Punjab primary and secondary healthcare department said the lockdown was extended on the low vaccinated districts.
• Under the strategy, it said the government would relax the lockdown in those districts which will improve the vaccination target


2. Captain martyred in gunfight with terrorists

• A captain was martyred during an exchange of fire with terrorists in Tank district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on September 30, 2021.
• Sources said Captain Sikandar embraced martyrdom when security forces were conducting an intelligence-based operation against the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in the Dabara area adjacent to South Waziristan tribal district. They said the incident occurred on Wednesday


3. Officials asked to use Pakistan Zindabad call-back tone

• The Balochistan government has ordered heads and senior officials of all departments to use the Pakistan Zindabad (long live Pakistan) track as call-back tone of their mobile phones.
• The call-back, or ring back tone, is the ringing sound heard by the originator of the call before the receiver answers the call.
• A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting, presided over by Chief Secretary Mathar Niaz Rana, according to a notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department


4. Over 2,000 health facilities shuttered in Afghanistan, says Red Cross

• Afghanistan`s health system is on the verge of collapse, a top Red Cross official warned on September 30, 2021, saying more than 2,000 health facilities had been shuttered across the conflict-ravaged country.
• The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) warned that a dire lack of funding was pushing Afghanistan`s health system to the brink.
• `People might agree to work without salaries for a few more weeks,` Alexander Matheou, IFRC`s Asia Pacific director, told a press conference in Kabul


5. New Delhi working on strategic tunnel to link Ladakh with held Valley

• High in a rocky Himalayan mountain range in Indian-occupied Kashmir, hundreds of people are working on an ambitious project to drill tunnels and construct bridges to connect the held valley with Ladakh, a cold-desert region isolated half the year because of massive snowfall.
• Strategically important Ladakh is near Pakistan and China and currently depends on air supplies for about six months of the year.
• Indian officials say a 6.5-lcilometre tunnel, the first of four, is already complete and will make the resort town of Sonamarg accessible during the winter months for the first time


6. Afghan debacle cumulative effect of 20 years of mistakes, says US military chief

• The US military chief has informed American lawmakers that the loss in Afghanistan was a cumulative effect of 20 years of wrong decisions and bad planning and was not caused by any single factor, such as the Taliban`s alleged sanctuary in Pakistan.
• In their latest testimony before the House Armed Services Committee, top US generals also blamed the Trump administration`s agreement with the Taliban for accelerating the fall of Kabul in mid-August


7. Israeli FM opens embassy in first visit to Bahrain

• Israel and Bahrain cemented their year old agreement to establish diplomatic ties on September 30, 2021, with the king of the small Gulf Arab state hosting Israel`s foreign minister who for the first time opened an embassy in the capital of Manama.
• Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid met King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa on the same day as the first direct flight from Manama touched down in Tel Aviv. The top Israeli diplomat later called the visit warm and optimistic.
• Bahrain`s carrier Gulf Air was met at Ben Gurion International Airport with a water salute and a ribbon-cutting ceremony


8. Qatar to host F1 race for first time in November

• Qatar will host a Formula One race for the first time in November and for 10 years from 2023.
• Qatar takes the remaining slot left vacant on this year`s reshuffled calendar. The race will start under floodlights at 6 p.m. local time on Nov 21 at the Losail International Circuit.
• As the 20th of 22 races this season, it will be followed by the inaugural Saudi Arabian GP in Jeddah on Dec 5 and the season-ending Abu Dhabi GP on Dec 12.


9. Haider outshines Babar as Northern nail Central Punjab in run fest

• It rarely happens when batting ace Babar Azam is outshone by a compatriot when ever the Pakistan captain strikes a century.
• But that was precisely the scenarioon Thursday during a high scoring thriller National T20 Cup clash in Rawalpindi. Haider Ali is not part of the 15-man national squad for the Twenty20 World Cup but still he gifted himself an early birthday present.
• The Attock-born batter, who will be 21 on Saturday, produced a high-class innings at the Pindi Cricket Stadium to inspire Northern to victory over Babar`s Central Punjab

• Sohaib Maqsood was a mighty relieved man in Rawalpindi.
• With the Twenty20 World Cup now just a few weeks away, the Pakistan batter finally played a knock of great substance. But despite Sohaib hitting his straps with a stroke filled 75, Southern Punjab capitulated to a fourth successive defeat at the National T20 Cup.
• The latest team to humiliate the Sohaib-led side was Northern, who completed a workmanlike five-wicket win at the Pindi Cricket Stadium
