• Three army soldiers embraced martyrdom in Kurram tribal district when terrorists attacked them from Afghanistan.
• According to a statement issued by ISPR, terrorists from inside Afghanistan opened fire across the international border on Pakistani troops in general area Kharlachi, Kurram district.

7. Russia hits back after setbacks in Ukraine`s east

• Russia said on September 13, 2022 it was carrying out `massive strikes` across the Ukrainian front line and accused Ukrainian soldiers of abusing civilians in territories recaptured in a dramatic counter-offensive.
• Moscow`s retaliation came after it was forced to pull back its troops from swathes of the northeast, particularly in the Kharkiv region, following Kyiv`s lightning assault to wrest back terrain.

8. Kabul denies UN accusations of violating women`s rights

• Taliban authorities on September 13, 2022 condemned UN accusations that they are violating the rights of women to work in Afghanistan, insisting thousands are employed in the country`s public sector.
• But Sharafuddin Sharaf, chief of staff at the ministry of labour and social affairs, said that many women were being paid despite not attending work, as offices were not set up for proper segregation of the sexes.
• `Working together in one office is not possible in our Islamic system,` he said, a day after a United Nations rights expert said there had been a `staggering regression` in women`s rights since the Taliban`s return to power in August


9. Nearly 100 killed in Armenia-Azerbaijan clashes

• Armenia and Azerbaijan reported nearly 100 troop deaths on September 13, 2022 in their worst fighting since a 2020 war over the disputed Nagorno Karabakh region.
• The last wave of fighting over Azerbaijan`s tense Armenian populated enclave ended in a fragile truce brokered by Russia.
• But on Tuesday, the Azeri defence ministry said `50 Azerbaijani servicemen died as a result of Armenia`s largescale provocation`, while Armenia earlier reported the deaths of at least 49 of its soldiers.
• Azerbaijan accused Armenia of violating the ceasefire after a night of clashes that renewed fears of another all-out conflict between the historic foes


10. Xi vows to `defend common security` ahead of Central Asia visit

• China`s President Xi Jinping on September 13, 2022 vowed to `defend common security` with Kazakhstan, state media reported, as he prepares to travel to Central Asia this week.
• Xi`s state visits to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan from Wednesday to Friday will be his first trip abroad since the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.
• He will attend a leaders` summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the Uzbek city of Samarkand, a stop on the ancient Silk Road.
• `China is willing to work with Kazakhstan to deepen cooperation in law enforcement, security and defence,` Xi wrote in an article for Kazakh media that was republished by Chinese state broadcaster CCTV
