6. Xi lands in Uzbekistan ahead of meeting with Putin

• China`s President Xi Jinping landed in Uzbekistan on September 14, 2022, state media said, ahead of a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
• `Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived here (in Samarkand) on Wednesday evening to pay a state visit to Uzbekistan and attend the 22nd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO),` the official Xinhua news agency said.
• The SCO established in 2001 as a political, economic and security organisation to rival Western institutions will bring together Xi and Putin, as well as leaders from India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and other ex-Soviet Central Asian countries


7. Armenia accuses Azeris of occupying chunk of its territory after clashes

• Armenia on September 14, 2022 accused Azerbaijan of occupying a pocket of its land seized in fierce clashes between the warring neighbours that left more than 150 people dead, jeopardising fledgling peace talks.
• The fighting that erupted on Tuesday came with Yerevan`s closest ally Moscow distracted by its nearly seven-month war in Ukraine.
• The scale of hostilities significantly subsided on Wednesday, but Baku and Yerevan traded accusations of violating a fragile Russian-brokered truce which has rarely held.
• Armenia said Azerbaijan`s shelling of its villages forced hundreds of civilians to flee their homes a claim which Baku flatly denied


8. Iran wants closer ties with UAE, says FM

• Iran`s top diplomat said on September 14, 2022 his country wanted to boost relations with the United Arab Emirates, welcoming an Emirati ambassador back to Tehran after a six-year absence.
• The UAE and other Gulf states had scaled back their ties with Iran in 2016 after protesters attacked Saudi Arabia`s diplomatic missions in Tehran following Riyadh`s execution of prominent Shia cleric Nimr al Nimr.
• `We would like to broaden our relations with our neighbours, including the United Arab Emirates, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told the new Emirati ambassador, Saif Mohammed al Zaabi, when they met on Tuesday, according to an official statement released on y Wednesday


9. Kyrgyz-Tajik clashes leave two dead

• Kyrgyz and Tajik border guards exchanged fire in three separate incidents in a border dispute on September 14, 2022, killing at least two people, officials on both sides said.
• The clashes came on the eve of a regional security summit, and a day after new fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan raised fears of instability spreading to other parts of the former Soviet Union while Russian forces fight in Ukraine. Kyrgyz border guards accused the Tajiks of having taken positions at a part of the border that has not been demarcated.
• The Tajik side said Kyrgyz guards had opened fire on a Tajik outpost without any provocation

• Three days after Pakistan went down to Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final in Dubai, breaking hearts across their fan base after emerging as the heavy tournaments favourites, another national squad has won a World Cup in Australia.
• This squad beat New Zealand on Wednesday to be crowned champions of the inaugural Over 60 World Cup, played in the scenic city of Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
• Given a paltry 173-run target to chase in 45 overs, Pakistan crossed the finish line with 20 balls and seven wickets to spare, thanks to a solid batting show by Syed Ghaffar Kazmi and Mohammad Aslam, who contributed 71 and 70 respectively, while combining for 111 runs for the third wicket
