6. Centre `abruptly` recalls Lahore CCPO

• In what appeared to be a surprise move, the federal government has withdrawn the services of Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar and directed him to report to the Establishment Division for further order.
• However, Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi has stopped the CCPO from relinquishing the charge, saying that the federal government can neither remove the CCPO nor transfer him.
• The government withdrew his posting from Punjab a day after Lahore police booked two PML-N ministers, as well as two senior officials of state-run PTV on terrorism charges for allegedly `fanning religious hatred` against former premier Imran Khan and `endangering his life`

• One person is estimated to be dying of hunger every four seconds, over 200 NGOs warned on September 20, 2022, urging decisive international action to `end the spiralling global hunger crisis`.
• In an open letter addressing world leaders gathering in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, 238 organisations from 75 countries, including Oxfam, Save the Children and Plan International expressed outrage at sky rocketing hunger levels.
• `A staggering 345 million people are now experiencing acute hunger, a number that has more than doubled since 2019,` they said in a statement.
• `Despite promises from world leaders to never allow f amine again in the 21st century, f amine is once more imminent in Somalia. Around the world, 50 million people are on the brink of starvation in 45 countries,` they said


8. Erdogan calls for `dignified way out` of Ukraine quagmire

• Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on September 20, 2022 called for a `dignified way out` of the seven-month crisis sparked by Russia`s invasion of Ukraine.
• Erdogan has been using his good working relations with both Moscow and Kyiv to try and find a diplomatic solution to the war.
• He spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky by phone moments before addressing the opening session of the United Nations General Assembly with an urgent appeal for peace.
• `Together, we need to find a reasonably practical diplomatic solution that will give both sides a dignified way out of the crisis,` Erdogan told the United Nations. He said a lasting peace must be based on protecting Ukraine`s territorial integrity


9. Hales, Brook lead England past Pakistan in opening T20

• Midway through their pursuit of 159 in their first match in Pakistan since 2005, England`s Alex Hales made his first mistake.
• The explosive opener, playing his first international match after three years, played a flat shot off Pakistan spinner Usman Qadir straight into the hands of Shan Masood at mid-wicket but got an instant reprieve as the debutant spilled it.
• England did lose Ben Duckett two balls later, but the arriving Harry Brook carried his team across the finish line with four balls and six wickets to spare in the first of the seven Twenty20 Internationals here at the National Stadium on September 20, 2022.


10. Sindh break KP`s dominance to lift National T20 Cup for first time

• Veteran Sohail Khan`s four wickets and Sharjeel Khan`s blistering half-century led Sindh to their maiden National T20 Cup crown after they thumped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by eight wickets in the final at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday night.
• This is the first time in four years that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa didn`t manage to win the title.
• In pursuit of a 141-run target, Sindh opening pair of Sharjeel (53) and Saim Ayub (36) took full advantage of the powerplay as both the batters stroked eight fours and six sixes combined and stitched a 70-run partnership in seven overs
