6. India`s top court legalises abortion regardless of marital status

• India`s top court on September 29, 2022 upheld the right of a woman to an abortion up to 24 weeks into pregnancy regardless of marital status, a decision widely hailed by women`s rights activists.
• The right to abortion has proved contentious globally after the US Supreme Court overturned in June its landmark 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade that had legalised the procedure across the United States.
• `Even an unmarried woman can undergo abortion up to 24 weeks on par with married women,` said Justice D.Y.

• Doreen Bogdan-Martin was elected on September 29, 2022 as the first woman to lead the UN`s telecom agencyinits 157-year history, with the US contender beating a Russian rival to the post.
• Bogdan-Martin will become the next secretary general of the International Telecommunication Union, which plays an important global role in setting the technical standards underlying mobile phones, television and the internet.

8. `State-backed terrorism` led to leaks in pipelines: Russia

• Russia said on September 29, 2022 that leaks spewing gas into the Baltic Sea from pipelines to Germany appeared to be the result of state-sponsored `terrorism` as an EU official said the incident had fundamentally changed the nature of the conflict in Ukraine.
• The European Union is investigating the cause of the leaks in the Gazprom-led Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines and has said it suspects sabotage was behind the damage off the coasts of Denmark and Sweden.
• Four days after the leaks were first spotted, it remains unclear who might be behind any attack on the pipelines that Russia and European partners spent billions of dollars building

10. Veteran leftist Yousuf Mustikhan passes away

• Yousuf Mustikhan, a veteran Baloch progressive leader and president of Awami Workers Party, died early on Thursday after a prolonged struggle against cancer, party and family sources said.
• He was 74 and has left behind three sons and as many daughters to mourn his death.
• Wrapped in party`s red and white flag, the icon of the Baloch nationalism was laid to rest in the afternoon in the presence of a large number of people from all walks of life, including journalists, politicians, lawyers, trade unionists and leaders of peasant movement, as well as his party`s senior leaders and workers
