1. Pakistan to get 5.6m more doses by end of March

• With 504,500 doses of Covid-19 vaccine having been dispatched to the federating units, Pakistan is expected to receive another 5.6 million vaccines by the end of March.
• As so far only 72,882 frontline healthcare workers have got themselves vaccinated in the country, the government has decided to start registering general health professionals, too, from Monday (Feb 22) for the vaccination programme. The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Saturday announced that general healthcare workers could register themselves on www.covid.gov.pk/vaccine.


2. Pakistan peacekeeper dies in Sudan accident

• A Pakistani soldier, Lance Naik Tahir Ikram, died in Sudan on February 20, 2021 when his truck met with an accident in the South Darfur region, Pakistan`s UN Mission announced.
• Tahir Ikram was associated with the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and was driving a mission truck when he had the accident. He was a member of the UNAMID`s Formed Police Unit


3. PN, PAF begin exercises with Russian, Lankan forces

• Upon culmination of Exercise Aman-2021, Pakistan Navy ships and fighters along with fighters of Pakistan Air Force got busy with bilateral exercises with the Russian and Sri Lankan navies.
• PNS Alamgir and Aslat conducted bilateral Exercise Arabian Monsoon-2021 with the ships of Russian Federation Navy, Admiral Grigorovich and Dmitriy Rogachov in the North Arabian Sea, officials said


4. Pakistan-Turkey military drills conclude

• Pakistan-Turkey counter-terrorism drills codenamed Ataturk-XI 2021 concluded on February 20, 2021.
• The three-week-long exercises held at Tarbela were participated by special forces of Pakistan and Turkey.
• According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the drills included cordon and search techniques, built-up area clearance with combat aviation support and hostage rescue


5. First pet-friendly park opens in capital

• The capital gets the first pet-friendly park functional in sector F-6, said the officials on February 20, 2021.
• The Capital Development Authority (CDA) administration has inaugurated the pet-friendly park at Hill Road in sector F-6. A number of citizens visit the park along with their pets. According to the details, pet-lovers have been repeatedly requesting the Capital Development Authority administration to introduce such parks in the city where citizens can come with their pets.


6. Pakistan, Sri Lanka agree to reactivate forum of Joint Working Groups

• Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to reactivate the forum of Joint Working Groups (JWGs) for redressal of technical issues pending between the two trading partners.
• Both the countries have decided to conduct the next JWG meeting during the first half of 2021. Both sides further agreed to enhance cooperation in trade related matters so that the true potential of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) could be effectively exploited. The decisions were taken in the 7th Session of Commerce Secretaries Level Talks, hosted by Pakistan, which were held virtually in Islamabad between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan


7. Over 200 million vaccine doses administered globally

• More than 200 million coronavirus vaccine doses have been administered in at least 107 countries and territories, according to an AFP count based on official sources February 20, 2021. In total 201,042,149 doses had been given worldwide by 1000 GMT — a figure that does not include the latest data from China and Russia, who have stopped making their progress public in recent days.
• Some 45 percent of the injections took places in countries belonging to the wealthy G7 club, whose members account for just 10 percent of the global population. Its seven countries — the US, Canada, Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Japan — promised Friday to share doses more fairly with worse-off countries.


8. Russia detects first case of H5N8 avian flu in humans

• Russia said on February 20, 2021 its scientists had detected the first case of transmission of the H5N8 strain of avian flu to humans and had alerted the World Health Organisation.
• In televised remarks, the head of Russia`s health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said scientists at the Vektor laboratory had isolated the strain`s genetic material from seven workers at a poultry farm in southern Russia, where an outbreak was recorded among the birds in December


9. Karachi Kings make short work of Quetta Gladiators

• Karachi Kings launched their title defence in the HBL Pakistan Super League 6 in style when they decimated Quetta Gladiators with consummate ease by seven wickets in the opening fixture of the tournament at the National Stadium here on February 20, 2021.
• Joe Clarke, on his PSL debut, set up Karachi`s only fourth win in 11 games against Quetta Gladiators as the Englishman clobbered a hurricane 46 from just 23 balls after Sharjeel Khan (4) was trapped in front by Mohammad Hasnain on the fourth ball of the innings

• The trouble for Naomi Osaka at Grand Slam tournaments comes in Week 1. Get beyond that stage at the hard-court majors, though, and start preparing to etch her name on the trophy.
• Osaka gave Jennifer Brady a lesson in Grand Slam tennis as she cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 win to secure her second Australian Open title on Saturday and cement her standing as the new queen of the women`s game
