6. Ecnec clears eight projects of Rs174bn
• Before leaving office, the outgoing government on Wednesday approved another eight development projects involving an estimated cost of about Rs174 billion.
• The approvals were given at the last meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Eenec) under the PDM government presided over by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, prime minister`s special assistants Tariq Bajwa and Tariq Pasha, a few federal secretaries and bureaucrats from some provincial departments also attended
7. Saudi mission in Iran starts work after seven years
• Saudi Arabia`s embassy in Tehran has resumed operations, state media in Iran reported on Wednesday, following a thaw in ties seven years after the mission was closed.
• Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to resume diplomatic relations and reopen their respective embassies following a China-brokered deal announced in March.
• The long-time regional rivals severed ties in 2016 after Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran were attacked during protests over Riyadh`s execution of cleric Nimr al-Nimr
8. Iran claims it can build supersonic cruise missile
• Iran said on Wednesday it has the technology to build supersonic cruise missile, Iranian state media reported, an announcement likely to heighten Western concerns about Tehran`s missile capabilities.
• The announcement comes days after reports on the arrival of over 3,000 US sailors and Marines aboard two US warships in the Red Sea to deter Iran from seizing and harassing merchant ships travelling through the Gulf`s Strait of Hormuz
9. Biden order bans tech investments in China
• President Joe Biden on Wednesday signed an executive order that will narrowly prohibit certain US investments in sensitive technology in China and require government notification of funding in other tech sectors.
• The long-awaited order authorises the treasury secretary to prohibit or restrict certain US investments in Chinese entities in three sectors: semiconductors and microelectronics, quantum information technologies, and certain artificial intelligence systems
10. ICC confirms India-Pakistan World Cup clash rescheduled
• India`s clash with archrivals Pakistan in this year`s ODI World Cup has been brought forward a day to October 14 among eight other fixture changes, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said Wednesday.
• The world`s biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad will host the hotly anticipated match, originally set for October 15 at the same venue
