1. Five churches, many homes ransacked in Jaranwala
- A violent mob of hundreds ransacked and torched five churches, attacked the residences of members of the Christian community and the office of the local assistant commissioner, following an alleged incident of blasphemy in Jaranwala town of Faisalabad district, on Wednesday.

2. Regional stability a shared interest, says US
- The United States has a shared interest with Pakistan in combating threats to regional stability, the State Department has said.
- `We have a shared interest with Pakistan, quite candidly, in combating threats to regional stability and remain ready to work with Pakistan to combat militant and terrorist groups,` State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel said on Tuesday.
- The US official was responding to a question about enhanced militant activities in the region. In a recent statement, Pakistan`s Ambassador to US Masood Khan said that the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups were using weapons left behind by US troops for attacking targets in Pakistan
3. Total debts, liabilities jump by 29pc in FY23
- Pakistan`s total debt and liabilities surged by 29 per cent, or Rs17.332 trillion in FY23 to reach Rs77.104tr during FY23, compared to Rs59.772tr in FY22, according to the State Bank of Pakistan`s latest data released on Wednesday.
- However, the gross external debt of the country declined by $6 billion during the same fiscal year, reaching $124.3bn compared to $130.3bn in FY22.
The SBP reported that as a percentage of GDP, total debt and liabilities reached 91.1 per cent, up from 89.7pc in FY22
4. Taliban `ban` political parties in Afghanistan
- The Afghan Taliban on Wednesday said there was a complete ban on activities of political parties in Afghanistan.
- `Political parties` activities have been completely stopped in the country because neither do these parties have any standing in Sharia, any place in Sharia nor are any national interests attached to these parties or the nation liked them,` Interim Minister for Justice, Shaikh Maulavi Abdul Hakeem Sharae said while presenting annual report of his ministry in Kabul, according to a statement issued by the Afghan Taliban`s media outlet
5. Climate change contributing to global inflation, says fund boss
- The head of Norway`s mammoth sovereign wealth fund said on Wednesday it would be `quite difficult` to bring down global inflation due to persistent upward pressure brought on by climate change and global market trends.
