1. 23 troops martyred in year`s deadliest attack
In the deadliest attack on security forces this year, at least 23 Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred and more than 30 troops wounded after militants belonging to the Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan (TJP) stormed a compound used by the military in Dera Ismail Khan`s Daraban area, in the early hours of Tuesday. Six militants who stormed the building were killed. Separately, two military operations in Darazinda and Kolachi resulted in the death of 21 militants and claimed the lives of two soldiers, the military`s media wing said in a statement.

2. With COAS in Washington, US reaffirms Pakistan`s `ally` status
The State Department has underscored Pakistan`s centrality to the US as a major ally and partner, after Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir arrived in the US this week.
Gen Munir, who is currently on an extended visit of the US, is expected to hold meetings with key defence, foreign policy and national security officials.
Although the visit was announced by the army`s media wing, details of his engagements have not been disclosed
3. `Pakistan has no public disaster insurance plan`
Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Insurance Division Director Waseem Khan said on Tuesday Pakistan has no public programme for disaster insurance even though it ranks fifth on the list of countries that`re most vulnerable to disaster.
Speaking at a news briefing ahead of the International Insure Impact Conference to be held on Dec 13 and 14, Mr Khan said the government should consider ways to disburse disaster-related allocations through a disaster risk insurance mechanism as opposed to one-off budgetary expenses to make the system self-sustaining
4. Aramco acquires 40pc of GO for $100m
In a first, Saudi Oil giant Aramco formally entered Pakistan`s retail market with an estimated investment of about $100 million by acquiring a 40 per cent stake in Gas & Oil Pakistan Ltd (GO) a private entity established almost a decade ago.
GO announced in a statement on Tuesday that Aramco, one of the world`s leading integrated energy and chemicals companies, signed definitive agreements to acquire a 40pc equity stake` in GO. Although both sides did not disclose the transaction`s worth, insiders said the transaction was sealed for about $100m

5. Israel steps up south Gaza bombardment
Israeli tanks and warplanes carried out new strikes on southern Gaza on Tuesday as the health ministry said Israeli forces were raiding a hospital in the northern of Palestinian territory.
The UN General Assembly, meanwhile, appeared set to demand an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in the two month long unrest after the United States vetoed such a move in the Security Council
